There is something about John Boehner that I dislike and distrust. Also, I sense that he is a quasi RINO.

“Keys to the Congressional sauna, hot tub and steam room, being invited to elite Washington parties and other events in the social scene, rubbing elbows with the “in” crowd, etc.”

There is much truth to this. Within moments of their arrival in DC, nearly all politicans get infected with cases of Potomac Fever that causes a distorted sense of one’s own importance. A congressman’s worst fears are losing their privileged status in DC and actually having to go back home, get a real job and live an anonymous life amongst the masses.

Seriously, they need to means test every single SS, Medicaid, Medicare and govt pension recipient.

So, you're agreeing with the liberals who say if I work hard and save up a 401K, I don't deserve the SS I paid into all that time because "I can afford to live without it?"

You probably think it's swell to have a much higher tax rate for upper-income bracket taxpayers? Any other redistributing/looting you like that you haven't told us about yet?

Oh, I see. I was forced to pay into the friggin' SS system for 43 years and now you want to keep me from getting MY money.

Runninglips says if you made an effort to fund your own retirement, you deserve to have that 43 years with of SS taken away from you.

Anybody who is “owed” money by the G., should get it. With SS, you are owed what you put in plus some legitimate interest. The numbers I’ve seen, however, suggest that most people get back what they put in, plus interest, plus a billion dollars. Latecomers, however, won’t get jack.

A friend of mine was asked by the Bush administration to come to DC and lobby for the “no child left behind” nonsense. He went, but returned home a couple of months later after resigning in disgust. He told me it’s way, way worse than any of us know. He said it’s like they have bales of $100 bills blowing in their doors from lobbyists. My friend said they’re not even all that worried about hiding it because the media turns a blind eye to it. He also told me that most of the congresscritters he met with during his time there were, in his words, “in way, way over their heads”. His opinion was that getting elected to Congress is the best job most of them could ever hope for. Well beyond anything they could earn in the private sector.....

I think you guys are bamboozled. The Hill is simply trying to provide cover for Obama, and using Boehner as the boogie man.

Yup, lets bring the entire society we live in...so those who trusted big govt can get a return on their SS.

Lets put our kids and grandchildren in financial slavery just so a generation can add to the bank account.

The Greatest Generation?...the tail end and baby boomers sold us down the road to 3rd world status.

He’s right. Media is reluctant to pursue/report a lot of things that might get them cut off from timely info or access to “newsmakers”. They know how to play the game.

He will never do it, it goes against everything he stands for whether or not its a good idea and good for the nation.

If he put the good of our nation or even his reelection bid over his ideology then we would be drilling for oil right now, but what he perceives as necessary to achieve his leftist view of Utopia trumps anything else.

I think Boehner is brilliant to do this myself. He knows damn well Obama will never do anything that far against his ideals and his far left supporters. Can you imagine the backlash on the far left if he was to do this? Now we have the Republicans going on record as willing to allow him to do this without any political repercussions by us, and when he refuses we can hold it up and point to it next November.

Brilliant move Boehner, now did the Republican leadership think of it themselves or did someone from the Tea Party float the balloon and you ran with it?

All I have to do is listen to Joe Biden speak for a while and I have to agree 100% with your friend on that.

Well thanks.

I do go on at times but there’s no reason for this country’s Social Security system to be in such trouble. Medicare is a whole ‘nother thing...put that aside for a moment.

Had the politicians had to follow their own laws, had they had to put the money deducted from people’s paychecks, WITH THEIR EMPLOYERS’ match (so many people forget this, effectively 12.4% of our paychecks went towards SS), had the politicians had to put their money in a reserved account like they require banks and 401K’s to do...there would be no problem.

We forget this, too often pointing fingers at the poor old folks who simply did what the law required thinking that the money would be there when they retired.

But the politicians spent the money and let me offer a wide example...

My husband contributed 2% of his paycheck for about 20 years towards a 401K. Now by his employer’s plan the company matched his contribution by 50%. So we’re talking 3% of his paycheck effectively, for 20 years. The actual amount of money deducted from his paycheck was about $18,000 or so.

Add the employer match...we’re up to $27,000.

The money was invested in the stock market...we had a choice in how we divvied it up. We chose, as we were young at the time, about 50% in the stock market, 25% in the company stock (Sears, for the record, now KMart) and 25% in bonds.

Last year we compiled it all together and we came out with a total of well over $150,000.

That’s with 3% of his paycheck over twenty years.

He had 12.4% of his paycheck deducted (6.2 his and 6.2 employer match) deducted over his ENTIRE work life, about forty years, for social security. Come on guys...had this money been invested like his 401k...there should be over a million bucks waiting for him.

Okay, it’s a rough thing but I think you can get the point. The politicians SPENT the damn money. and now we’re going to beat up on the old geezers? Or even worse, if the old geezers make too much money, WE’RE GOING TO TAKE IT AWAY FROM THEM?

I’m begging, don’t let the politicians get away with this.

The best thing that could be done for Social Security is a)raise the retirement age to around 70 years for the 35 year old today, b)get a bit more strict with just who, exactly, is disabled. Take a real close look at that “bipolar” thing and c)for all social security payroll deductions AND the employer matches to REALLY put aside into a special account, buy gubmint obligations with it if not wanting to invest in stock market...and DON’T LET THEM SPEND IT.

Then, God willing, fifty years from now some old geezer won’t have to sit and worry that the politicians of that era will be wanting to take their retirement money away, reduce it or worst of all, declare he makes too much money AND GIVE HIM NOTHING!

When the best that Boehner, et al, can muster is a 2% spending cut (actually closer to .5%), made up primarily of baseline budgeting gimmicks, when, under Obama’s tutelage spending has gone up 25% in the past two years I’d have to say that Boehner has gone a long ways towards making himself a “boogie man” on his own. I certainly have absolutely no trust for him or Cantor or McConnell or (fill in the blank with your favorite elected Republican).....

The only problem is, for every Tea Party guy, there are 100 old, decrepit, welfare-begging bums who will cut your GD throat, if you even look at their SS checks funny.

You are one sick dude.

It was your generation, not the seniors that put Obama in and doubled the national debt.
