"The Second Amendment," Charlton Heston used to say, "is America's first freedom." The Second secures the rest.
It's a message narcissistic journalists need to hear again. A decade ago, Heston chastised the media in a National Press Club speech for its collective ignorance, apathy and open hostility toward gun owners' rights:
----------------------------
Public disclosure of concealed carry licenses varies from state to state. Eighteen states protect permit holders' privacy from public view. Virginia is one of 17 states that make licensee records public. If information is public, does it make it right for a newspaper to publish it? The media exercise discretion all the time in withholding the names of minors or rape victims. Why should the privacy of law-abiding concealed handgun permit holders be treated with any less concern?

Two weeks ago, the Roanoke (Va.) Times published an online database of registered concealed handgun permit holders in the paper's community under the sanctimonious guise of "Sunshine Week." The database included both the names and street addresses of some 135,000 Virginians with permits to carry concealed weapons. Columnist Christian Trejbal patted himself on the back for making it easy to snoop on the neighbors: "I can hear the shocked indignation of gun-toters already: It's nobody's business but mine if I want to pack heat. Au contraire. Because the government handles the permitting, it is everyone's business."
Well...now everyone knows who IS unarmed...IDIOT.
I think, also, then, any state or fed funds that go to paying for abortions should have the name of the individual published...weekly....like in the newspaper for everyone’s review....or how about..aNYONE who receives WELFARE, Food Stamps, Soc Security (non-retirement), etc.....????? Sunshine needs to expose the slackers...
"I can hear the shocked indignation of gun-toters already: It's nobody's business but mine if I want to pack heat. Au contraire. Because the government handles the permitting, it is everyone's business."
Its people like this pathetic worm of a man that are ruining this country and purposefully undermining it's founding values.
I bet they wouldn’t run a list of all drivers license holders under this same “Sunshine Week.” I’m willing to bet there are more deaths and injuries from vehicle related accidents than with firearms.
You better be careful, there, little Mr. Unchristian Treadmill, THAT knife cuts both ways...
That was in 2007
Amusingly, I was listening to Witch Hunt by Arena when I clicked on this thread.
Aside from that, these people have no right to publish names and addresses of those with permits. I’d love for them to point out in state law where they may do that.
So, by this ass hats logic, the government handles the Witness Protection Program so that's everyone's business, too.
Lets not get ahead of the government here.

Now everyone can figure out who the easy targets are, what a bunch of idiots (and other words not fit for me to post on FreeRepublic) these guys are.
This is an old story from 2007 and Gov. then AG McDonnell took care of this:

You are, of course, corrrect.
The Virginia General Assembly changed our law a couple of years ago to protect the list from being easily released.
When I saw this article, at first I thought maybe the Roanoke Times ‘jumped through all the hoops’ necessary to get the list so they could publish it again.
However, when I went to www.roanoke.com/gunpermits, the message there is from March, 2007.
Is Ms. Malkin recycling columns or something?
“I can hear the shocked indignation of gun-toters already: It’s nobody’s business but mine if I want to pack heat. Au contraire. Because the government handles the permitting, it is everyone’s business.”
There’s also common courtesy. Just because someone tells me something doesn’t mean I should tell the world about it. I mean, because someone in my family had a breakup, should I write it up for the newspaper? If someone in my family got turned down for graduate school, should I let the press know? As far as this reasoning goes, there is little to no courtesy for a great deal of people that was entrusted to the state, and this is not about people who commit crimes either, rather these are people who could help with public defense due to their concealed carry capability. It’s a rediculous and despicable thing that this paper did, I would sue the local paper in Delaware if they did this.
That was the sole reason why I posted the article...
Now you know.
The home addresses and phone numbers of the columnist and the editorial staff of the paper need to be published.

While we’re at it, deny the vote to anyone who receives any form of public assistance.
They will always vote for the hand that feeds them.
That is why I let them keep their damn permit and just carry anyway.
That’s why I won’t have a CC permit. If I want to carry in VA, I’ll just open-carry.
