The crowds are angry, the polls unfavorable, but Gov. Scott Walker has so far refused to compromise on key pieces of his controversial budget repair bill.
Such resolve would be impressive in a politician with the resume of a Tommy Thompson or Russ Feingold, but it's a little shocking for a governor with just eight weeks under his belt.
Except, when it comes to Walker, it isn't.
"Anyone who thinks he will change his mind has another thing coming," said Milwaukee County Supervisor Joe Sanfelippo, a Walker ally during his tenure as county executive. "He ignores the polls and the protests and does what he thinks is right. And I can tell you, he will not give in."
Those of us who have watched him at work in the past knew he would stand firm, and he did. Why?
Because we knew his approach to life, in his own words, is "trust and obey" God.
Amen brother. I had to laugh last night at how many folks here at FR that hate the lamestream, but bought into their spin that Walker was folding. If he didn't after a few days of the protests, he had no reason to now. He is a solid man. God bless Scott Walker.

Standing firm is one thing. Letting the tail wag the dog is entirely another.
I gained a new perspective on the reason for the dawdling by the Repubs (Walker included). The Repubs naively thought that their comrades of the Senate, with whom they’ve worked for years, wouldn’t lie and manipulate them like they have. Once it became clear to the Repubs that the Dem senators were dancing to the unions’ tune, without regard for the danger they were creating for the democratic process, they wanted to make a statement. The Dems have been claiming that several of the Repub senators were going “wobbly”. This vote tonight, 18-1, proved that to be untrue.
Great job Scott Walker and all the WI Republican senators as well. Job well done!!

I know we all get frustrated and sometimes anticipate the worse, and heaven knows with good reason. But Scott Walker is the Real Deal. He’s not a wealthy man, but how many government employees have you ever heard of giving back $370,000 of his own salary? That’s what Scott Walker tid -he was paid $129,000 a year as Milwaukee County Administrator and he voluntarily gave back $60K per year - that’s nearly half!
A man who puts his own money where his convictions are is the kind of man who will not pay attention to polls, who isn’t motivated by the next election or the next job, and who will do what is right rather than what is easy.
We need more leaders like Scott Walker.

Good point and what’s true for Gov. Walker is certainly not true for Republicans in general...nearly the contrary.
Dale Schultz needs to be looking at a very difficult re-election next time he’s up. Richland Center is not blue-state country, yet he wobbled all over the place and caved in the end. That decision needs to end his career in politics.

Well, Schultz was up front about his problems with the bill from the get go. I understand that (before the Dems ran off) he had agreed to not submit his amendment to restore collusive bargaining rights in 2013. If that’s true (shrug) - they can’t all be conservative. I don’t like RINOs, but I don’t know enough about Schultz to tag him as that.
Good for him, we need someone who will get the job done. We will have lots of time to see how he operates, but it doesn’t like he has some fine history to build on.
thanks bigbob for the posting. some posts were pretty harsh on Scott Walker. The winds of change cause some people to bounce around. Scott walker stood his ground and guess there will a few more days of havoc yet to go in Madison. Hopefully the vitirol and hatred will go away among some FRs.
i have been ranted and raved at called a drunk and drug addict to stop posting on FR. why because I had cervical neck surgery I use dragon naturally Speaking, a voice activated software speech recognition program. I am learning it yet.
I do not know whether or not I will remain on FR. Lot depends on if the hatred and vitroil remains.
Well you have a lot of idiots here who watch Obama Tv and think we are in 1977-79 Carter land and it is far worse. They watch Fox Al Waleed thinking it is better but it all sucks. Quite few are old folks who like TCM with old reruns of old movies but their support of Obama TV means they may face Obama’s death panels soon than they think. Keep it up.
Walker is awesome. I hope he runs for President in 2012 - assuming we have elections.
My admiration too for Walker. Doing the right thing, not the safe thing.
