I am in Crescent City. Tsunami surges continue. Harbor severely damaged, boats damaged.

Some gawkers swept off of beach in Pistol River, OR, but apparently all were rescued.

Brookings OR (20 miles north)...Curry County Sheriff says, “Commercial port has sustained heavy damage.” Some boats have sunk and several swept out to sea. 1 fatality.

We are expecting surges for about nine more hours, according to radio reports.

Thanks for the update, my Mom was asking me for info on Smith River earlier this afternoon. I told her what I had read about Crescent City.

Just got off the phone with a crab boat skipper down in Bodega (on Cefalu's old boat, the Barbara Marie, though I can't recall what it's been renamed, if it has).

That boat was out of Morro Bay, but spent much time in Crescent City over the last 20-30 years, come crab season.

The new owner has kept a slip in Crescent City for years, which had occasional use by the Linda Jean, his former rig before finally getting "uncle fred" to sell him the Barbara Marie.

So I should have said, they used to have a slip in Crescent City. I'd bet the Harbor will still want to collect the slip fees..

This would be in the Northern portion of the C.C. Harbor...I assume the old rickety docks on the South side got hit even worse?

Also was told that those boats whom could make it out of C.C., are not being let back in, are jockeying around outside the harbor, but many are headed to Eureka, as that port reportedly not damaged, and will be allowing boats to enter after 10:00 PM.
I asked how Field's Landing faired (near the bar entrance for Eureka) but didn't get an answer.

The photos from Japan are horrific. That's what we humans get for living near the edge of the giant bathtub. It can slosh up the sides, for quite some ways...can, and has at times.

we ain't seen nothin' yet. But if I don't live long enough to see earthquakes totally off the scale, or even worse --asteroid strikes, it'd be ok with me.
