I have the feeling that many employees at this plant are giving their lives to bring it under control.

I can't imagine the nightmare they're going through.

And that’s not all:

Latest from Kyodo News @ http://english.kyodonews.jp/news/ ...

URGENT: Fuel rods damage at Fukushima’s 2 reactors estimated at 70%, 33%
TOKYO, March 16, Kyodo

An estimated 70 percent of the nuclear fuel rods have been damaged at the troubled No. 1 reactor of the Fukushima No.1 nuclear power plant and 33 percent at the No. 2 reactor, Tokyo Electric Power Co. said Wednesday.

The reactors’ cores are believed to have partially melted with their cooling functions lost after Friday’s magnitude 9.0 earthquake rocked Fukushima Prefecture and other areas in northeastern and eastern Japan.

All that melting means a lot of hot, molten highly radiating ‘lava’ at the bottom of the nuclear core/fuel rod containers ... and very increased (high) likelihood (according to the Scientific American posting Mar 12th responsibly describing worst-case scenario) that the containers would likely fail and the ‘lava’ will flow out, which would be disastrous locally onsite ... not sure just what it would bode for off-site ??? On-site though, no one would even be able to remain there, as I understand it.
