There were many involved who did what needed to be done and knew it would end up killing them. Mighty brave.

Someone let the whole herd of dramalamas out tonight

Not even close. Nobody mentioned "The China Syndrome" or "Silkwood," two of the great propaganda pieces of the left.

Crisis over - they are back in. They didn’t just leave and run away - as the thread made it sound.

They had a break - took a breather - rested up - going back in!

No big deal and nothing that hasn’t happened earlier today.

They are getting things under control one step at a time. They wouldn’t be there if they didn’t think they could handle this.

Even if there is a total meltdown it isn’t THAT big of a deal. Yeah - not good - but not the end of man as we know it.

This will be easily contained in the coming days.

Just a slow process.

Can’t rush putting out a nuclear plant. Takes time. As expected.

CNN nuke scientist is really concerned if it is true the workers are gone for good. I have heard other reports saying they had to leave due to high radiation levels. Time will tell....very soon.

Sorry, the Japanese engineers I’ve met are more rigorous.

I was thinking more Katrina in terms of stealing me a case of Heineken. Don’t wanna lose my clearance, so I guess I’ll pay for it.

Japan’s interior minister confirmed the workers were pulled until the radiation declined and at the gate they did.

I'm not sure why we should ditch nuclear power over the failure of a 40-year-old, obsolete reactor, already at the end of its designed lifespan, which was unwisely situated on a coastline known for violent tsunamis. We can build much safer ones now, and site them out of harm's way

In a rational world, where people use reason and science to make decisions, there would indeed be many new nuke plants constructed.

Unfortunately, the slimy, contemptible, immoral, power hungry corrupt political class dominates the major institutions that have sway over such decisions. So, no new nuke plants for the foreseeable future.

With TEPCO announcing they were leaving because the radiation level was too high, it is hard to believe it was simply lunch.

Not to be contrary, I am very pro nuke, but most coal also releases radioactive elements into the atmosphere. At least its carbon content fertilizes plants .

Japan shares surge; central bank adds further $43B - ap
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/world_markets

TOKYO – Japanese stocks rebounded Wednesday, recovering some of the massive losses sustained the last two days following a devastating earthquake and tsunami. Other Asian indexes also bounced back despite the still unknown impact of the disaster that engulfed Japan’s northeastern coast Friday.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index temporarily surged above 6 percent but then softened after Japan suspended operations to prevent a stricken nuclear plant from melting down after a surge in radiation made it too dangerous for workers to remain at the facility. The index ended its morning session up 4.4 percent to 8,981.14.

I hear you topher. Otoh, at the risk of sounding shocking I will say that what is happening at these plants appear to be within their design specifications. Iow, these failures are all within the containment systems’ performance criteria. Chernobly got far outside its design specs, hence the huge relief effort in that case.
