No, they said he didn’t have any privileged information. But he doesn’t need any secret information to figure out that the situation is effectively out of control. This man and his expert staff figured that out from publicly available information and news video. In my view, the Japanese government is substantially understating the severity of this situation at the power plant.
No, he said he didn't have any privileged or specific information. That means he has no information that can tell him this is "out of control."
He's full of crap. Even if the next thing we hear about this plant is that it's Chernobyl II and it's spreading radiation all over northeastern Japan, Gunther won't be right, he'll just be a fool with a title, because he doesn't know anything and makes a pronouncement anyway.
This man and his expert staff figured that out from publicly available information and news video.
Really? Can you list his staff members and their qualifications? How can an analysis of information leave him with "no specific information" that supports his assertion?
In my view, the Japanese government is substantially understating the severity of this situation at the power plant.
And your qualification to make that assessment is...? Are you as qualified as Gunther's staff?
On FR the past few days I have been annoyed by the sudden appearance of dozens of world-class experts on nuclear power, some saying "everything is fine" without having any reason to be so sure. But the most annoying part of all is the legions of freepers who are predicting nuclear apocalypse based on no knowledge at all, parroting with wide-eyed innocence the pronouncements of a media that depends on drama for ratings and lies to us on a regular basis about the level of danger from technologies. alar on apples, anyone? Road rage? Summer of the Shark?
It's time for us to grow up and stop being suckers.
If fuel rods have melted and containment has been breached (and I think we have a roger on both of those), it has already gotten out of control by definition. If control can not be regained, there could be more melting and breaching and so more discharge of radioactive particulates into the atmosphere. I doubt that anyone is in position to know exactly how much of what.
