US ambassador to Mexico quits amid WikiLeaks furor

The U.S. ambassador to Mexico resigned Saturday amid furor over a leaked diplomatic cable in which he complained about inefficiency and infighting among Mexican security forces in the campaign against drug cartels.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, in Paris to meet with U.S. allies on Libya, said Carlos Pascual's decision to step down was "based upon his personal desire to ensure the strong relationship between our two countries and to avert issues" raised by President Felipe Calderon.

Clinton didn't say specifically what she was referring to, but a furious Calderon has publicly criticized Pascual's cable, which was divulged by the WikiLeaks website.

Pascual's resignation — less than two weeks since President Barack Obama met with Calderon at the White House — appeared to be the biggest fallout yet from thousands of sensitive U.S. diplomatic cables from around the world released by WikiLeaks.

Poor dude got caught telling the truth. Used to happen to me all the time. Nothing good ever came of it. Higher ups always want to hear good news, never want to hear about things that need attention or need changing, etc.

That's why you can never trust to hear the real facts and truth from government - D or R. Bureaucrats and politicians will never admit bad news or any problems under their watch. They see it as a sign of failure and every underling will work to cover it up.

The only way we the people will ever hear honesty from our government is when it comes from whistle blowers or from Wiki Leaks. The rest is 90% BS intended to cover-up for others. Bureaucrats and politicians always stick together to cover-up for other countries too.

They have an elite club where only they believe they have the right to know the truth and the rest of society should be kept in the dark. That's why they want to shut down Wiki Leaks at all cost. It exposes them to embarrassment and corruption.

It was a classified diplomatic cable, in which diplomats are supposed to provide the unvarnished truth to Washington. There are a lot of occasions when you mentioning that unvarnished truth to the parties on whom you are reporting would be detrimental to our national interest.

"It was a classified diplomatic cable, in which diplomats are supposed to provide the unvarnished truth to Washington."

Exactly. This kid sitting in a brig in Quantico has done INCALCULABLE damage to the US.

Sure, there can be lots of conversations about having these kinds of message on a universal server, even though it's a classified server. And, those would be beneficial conversations to have. But, the fact of the matter is that they've been doing it this way for the better part of two decades with no problems until now.

The bad news is that the repercussions for this will ripple forward for years to come. The worse news is that only a fraction of the 100Ks of cables have been published thus far. Who knows what other shoes will drop, or when.

It will do for now, until they hang the little son of a bitch. And I do hope they have the cojones to do that, because that is what he deserves.

Best Ambassador to Mexico we’ve had in years...wouldn’t kiss Calderon’s ass like Obama and Hilary...proved that agents of the cartels were sitting in the President’s office...instead of having the balls to tell Calderon we know you have people around you that can’t be trusted, they forced Pascual’s resignation. There will be a new day coming in 2012 when we have an administration with pride and confidence in the United States and will not allow a third world country to slap us around.
