Excuse me, you are right with respect to produce. I am a bit biased being in the automotive industry here in Michigan. Try selling an automobile in Japan.... not gonna happen.
Try making an automobile with the steering wheel on the right side of the car which fits Japanese roads and compares well in price, performance and quality and then get back to me.
FWIW, the yakuza and a few others like American cars just the way they are, along with a few other minor market segments.
The Germans, BTW, have no problem selling cars in Japan. Could it be it is because they employ somebody besides U.A.W. drones who actually take pride in their work?
Oh, and BTW, I have a bud who works for the Honda plant in Marysville, Ohio. They export some of the cars they make to Japan.
