“I’m not convinced he’s unelectable. Surely, 20+ years ago he could not get elected, but in today’s environment I think he could. Trump says a lot of things that resonate with the common man on the street, beaten down by the last few years of a horrible economy and a faltering democracy. I’ll give him one thing, he truly is a patriot and cares about his country. He shoots from the hip, which would probably get him in trouble in a primary, but in this day and age...if someone like Obama could be elected, the old rules are out the window.”
I agree just wanted to change it up a little...
I’m not convinced she’s unelectable. Surely, 20+ years ago she could not get elected, but in today’s environment I think she could. Palin says a lot of things that resonate with the common people on the street, beaten down by the last few years from a horrible leftist economy and a faltering democracy. I’ll give her one thing, she truly is a patriot and cares about our country. She shoots from the hip, which would probably get her in trouble in a primary, but in this day and age...if someone like Obama could be elected, the old rules are out the window.
That is all...
As Rush said the other day, Trump is not one to “comb-over” difficulties.
Or he is taking the wind out of Sarah Palin's sails (as polls indicate). Many of the same people willing to vote for her will be happy voting for him. After all, he's also a really big celebrity willing to take on Obama.
If Trump is indeed a stalking horse for Thunder Thighs, I call it a good thing. Blacks make up 12% of the population and vote in near unanimous fashion for anyone who looks like them. If Hitlary actually primaries FUBO and wins, the Blacks will stay home ( if they don’t riot on the loss) and the Pubbies get a 12% cut in the RAT vote. The way the country is diced up, that would be enough to elect a decent Republican candidate, that is, if one can be found.
One difference is that Perot appealed to men, and Trump appeals a lot to women. He will be a power broker and could very well cause a split in the party due to his social liberalism. This will be a dangerous game.
I totally agree with you that Donald Trump is a patriot and from that perspective I respect him. He puts his own country first and that surely is very attractive. My reservations about him are around his historically being a New York Republican at best, socially liberal and that it will be a hard sell for him in the conservative South. So winning the GOP nomination would be a lot harder than the general election.
Does he try to unify and treat the social conservatives respectfully or does he try to divide and conquer? No question in my mind he could bring a lot of Reagan democrats home but I believe if we don’t get a conservative president next time the Depression will drag on and we could very well have war at home. We will see.
I don't see the TV celebrity, billionaire casino owner convincing enough voters to take him seriously enough, for him to have a real shot at the nomination.
However, I do like the fact that he's forcing some taboo subjects into the main arena of public debate. He's uniquely positioned to do so, as he really has nothing to lose if he's attacked by the left.
The MSM can't hurt him, so he's free to speak his mind, and he's so visible, that millions of Americans will hear him. He's doing the right an enormous service by breaking the ice on these subjects. We will see which Republican hopefuls actually have the cojones (or ovaries) to take advantage of the opening he's provided.
I do agree he is a longshot for the GOP nomination. He spoke in support of unions in a recent Slate interview:
“Ive had great relationships with unions, and Ive made good deals. Ive made a lot of money, I mean, Ive made many billions of dollars and in many cases Ive been dealing with unions. So, really, collective bargaining doesnt bother me so much.”
He can be very disruptive by playing to the middle. Depends a lot on how he treats the social conservatives and Tea Party.
If he comes in to divide and conquer the right,he could very well decide to switch and take Obama on in the Democrat primary for the precise reason you say. He is already popular with the MSM and if the radical left attacks him he can take the “moderate” donkeys, whatever that is. He could look very appealing to them and what I see is that he is socially moderate at best. He is playing a dangerous game and by the way I think he could beat Obama in a democrat primary.
He is the only one addressing the China issue.
Oh, that'll never fly, now that he's on record as wanting to seek the Republican nomination. Democrat voters will never forgive him for having 'gone to the dark side', and Obama & Co. would rip him to shreds for having waffled on his political affiliation.
What if he ran as a DEM?
