Dems need 2 GOP in order to have 2/3 vote to put the issue as a special referendum in June. Otherwise they have to wait till Nov 2011. Problem if people in CA does not support the tax extensions/increases it may impact the general election results in Nov 2011. Having it in June will not if it is defeated. Makes no difference, if the Dems want tax increases they have the votes to pass to put it on the ballot in Nov 2011. Otherwise they will need 2 GOP for a special ballot in June. Latest polls say tax extensions would lose, but June and Nov are still times away for politics. Referendum only needs 50 plus 1 percent to pass.
The Republicans should just refuse to vote for any more taxes or extensions;give the Dems a small taste of what they are doing to Indiana(Indiana House can’t conduct business because Dems left the state).
