We’re doing Air Interdiction, which is basically almost the same as Close Air Support just minus the coordination with the troops on the ground and supposedly separated by more space. You can easily and purposefully blur the lines between AI and CAS without much effort.
I still firmly believe we need to understand more about the rebels, who they are, their intention, goals and vision of the end-game. I think we could easily usher in a bigger problem to the US than Gadaffi himself if we are not intelligent about this.
Some of the rebels are fighting toe to toe with the Libyan military and winning, even when the air support is not present. Someone is coordinating the rebel advances and calling in CAS for them.
