I don't agree in the least with the ROE, and feel strongly that they put our troops in danger. That, however, does not excuse an American citizen who knowingly does the same thing, nor the praise he is getting from people who ought to know better. One wrong does not excuse another.

As one who has a family member in Afghan, another going next year, and one continuously in either Afghan or Iraq since the beginning of this war, I must disagree with you.

Pastor Jones might not be my brand of pastor, but he has done absolutely nothing wrong. This idea that "one wrong doesn't excuse another" is way out of proportion, too.

The afghans broke into a UN compound and murdered 7 people and are trying to murder more.

On the other side, we have a pastor who torched some paper and ink.

Can you begin to tell me what is equivalent about those 2 that would generate a "one wrong doesn't excuse another"?

How about Jimmy took Katie's chewing gum. Therefore, Ahmed murdered Rudolfo. Makes perfect sense to me...tit for tat and all that rot. /s

As Marlowe says, we need to kick ass one more time on the Taliban and call it "mission accomplished" with a threat of more kick ass if they P us O again.

I have not said that the 'wrongs' were equivalent. I would be a fool to have said that, or even implied it, and I am not a fool.

What the pseudo-preacher in FL did was wrong.

What the Islamofascists are, and have been doing around the world is evil and maniacal, and no one is comparing the one to the other, nor am I asking that we 'appease' the evil by stopping the wrongheaded, stupid behavior of this egocentric jerk. I am merely pointing out that this Fred Phelps wannabe who knowingly put our troops in further danger, was wrong.

Be well, xzins. Prayers for your family in Afghanistan. They are HEROES, and the fact that bozo Jones put them at further risk enfuriates me. Thank them for me.

Agree with your analysis, xzins. If anyone is to blame, it is first the murdering Afghanis, then the imams who encouraged violence, and Karzai who demanded "justice". From Petraeus Says Quran Burning Endangers War Effort

Most Afghans learned about the Quran burning in Florida only when Mr. Karzai on March 24 condemned the act as "a crime against the religion and the entire Muslim nation," called on the U.S. and the U.N. to bring the perpetrators to justice and demanded "a satisfactory response to the resentment and anger of over 1.5 billion Muslims around the world."

So what was the response to both the quran burning and the murders at the UN compound?

Petraeus referred to [the Quran burning in Florida] as "hateful, extremely disrespectful and enormously intolerant.", but he also said this:

"Every security-force leader's worst nightmare is being confronted by essentially a mob, especially [a mob] that can be influenced by individuals that want to incite violence, who want to try to hijack passions, in this case, perhaps understandable passions." Inside the Massacre at Afghan Compound

So let me get this right.......quran burning -
- a crime against the religion and the entire 1.5 Billion "Muslim nation " - Karzai (notice he didn't say against) his nation
- hateful, extremely disrespectful and enormously intolerant - Gen. Petraeus

Killing innocent UN people -
- "to attack and kill innocent people in response is outrageous, and an affront to human decency and dignity." -Karzai
- these Afghanis had their "passions" hijacked, "in this case, perhaps understandable passions." - Gen. Petraeus
