Army Gen. Carter Ham says ground forces wouldn't be ideal, but may be a possible way to aid rebels; Says current operation largely stalemated

(CBS/AP) WASHINGTON - The United States may consider sending troops into Libya with a possible international ground force that could aid the rebels, according to the general who led the military mission until NATO took over.

Army Gen. Carter Ham also told lawmakers Thursday that added American participation would not be ideal, and ground troops could erode the international coalition and make it more difficult to get Arab support for operations in Libya.

Ham said the operation was largely stalemated now and was more likely to remain that way since America has transferred control to NATO.

Well, it is an illegal war to begin with, why not go all the way? Why stop at an aerial drive by?

1. Wasn’t that specifically banned by the authorizing UN Resolution, and doesn’t the far left usually take UN resolutions as the supreme law of the land?

2. Why is this even our fight?

3. What does he think boots on the ground can do to protect civilians in towns and villages that we can’t already do from the air, and how many sets of boots does he think that will take?

If it hadn't been for PIAPS this thing would have been over a long time ago.

She is doubtless making money off oil speculation, but for the average American this situation just doesn't matter. It's the Euro’s problem — let them deal with it.

I agree. It’s time for the rest of the world to step up. No more American boots on the ground in the Middle East. In fact, bring all our kids home now and let these people fight it out. In the mean time, drill for our own oil.

It’s an obvious trial balloon, and it needs to be popped before this day is done.

Oh, lordy lordy lordy. Will we be composing gangsta rap songs about that soon? That idea is seriously worth exploring for satirical purposes.

If Obama's for it then the Dems will be for it. To oppose anything he wants is just racist.

I thought we were involved to protect civilians. Aiding the rebels means killing civilians as they are invariably caught in the cross fire.

Where in the UN Charter or the NATO Charter is there any language authorizing the use of force to take sides in a Civil War in which no foreign nation has been threatened or attacked?

Now that being said, WHERE IS CONGRESS ON THIS MISSION? Either approve it or impeach the imposter for starting it!

I am sure they will love fighting a ground war 8,000 miles from home while not drawing a paycheck.

Michigan Freepers, be sure to get your heavy-duty ponchos.

Michael Moore’s head is sure to explode, and it will be at least a 200 mile blast radius...
