BREAKING: Computer Error Gives Prosser 7,381 More Votes, Almost Certain Victory
The Corner -- National Review Online ^ | 04/07/11 | Christian Schneider

After Tuesday night’s Wisconsin Supreme Court election, a computer error in heavily Republican Waukesha County failed to send election results for the entire City of Brookfield to the Associated Press. The error, revealed today, would give incumbent Supreme Court Justice David Prosser a net 7,381 votes against his challenger, attorney Joanne Kloppenburg. On Wednesday, Kloppenburg declared victory after the AP reported she finished the election with a 204-vote lead, out of nearly 1.5 million votes cast.

On election night, AP results showed a turnout of 110,000 voters in Waukesha County — well short of the 180,000 voters that turned out last November, and 42 percent of the county’s total turnout. By comparison, nearly 90 percent of Dane County voters who cast a ballot in November turned out to vote for Kloppenburg.

Prior to the election, Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus was heavily criticized for her decision to keep the county results on an antiquated personal computer, rather than upgrade to a new data system being utilized statewide. Nickolaus cited security concerns for keeping the data herself — yet when she reported the data, it did not include the City of Brookfield, whose residents cast nearly 14,000 votes.

Throughout the day Thursday, official canvass numbers flipped the lead back and forth between Prosser and Kloppenburg. While many believed a recount was inevitable, the addition of the Brookfield votes for Prosser could push the justice’s lead beyond the legal threshold that would trigger an automatic recount. Under state law, Kloppenburg could still ask for a recount up to three days after the official canvass, but would have to pay for it herself.

More details as they become available.

I agree, which is why I don’t understand the comments on this thread. It seems like few can read between the lines and are just giving knee-jerk reactions/assuming facts not in evidence.

Many seem not to have read the article at all.....or just don’t get it.

don’t say this happened, but the one sure way to beat the rats without cheating/manufacturing votes is to sucker them into only manufacturing a certain number of votes that they think puts them over the top, and then giving up your REAL totals after the fact.”

AWESOME POST!

Yes - the whole concept of ‘portable’ computer was different back then. Weighed about as much as a sewing machine but hey - if you could lift it then it was ‘portable’. Everyone who tried taking those on business trips at my company, did so a total of one time.

Hilarious.

Keep in mind that this is a Friday coming up. How many union members (aka teachers) will head to Madison for the weekend to cause a riot?

Ha, you aren’t kidding! I was reading an article by those left-wing Obama-worshipping sycophants at the Associated Press and the headline stated something like: “Wisconsin voters send Walker, GOP a strong, angry message”. Meanwhile, we’re talking about a liberal court judge in a liberal state leading a statewide election by a mere 200 votes at the time. I mean, give me a frickin’ break!!

My thoughts exactly!

Let the ‘rats manufacture just enough votes in Dane County (a late reporting County on Election Night) to claim victory, then, WHAM!

It will be very difficuly for them to “find” 7,400 ballots...

Of course you could just not release any results until all of the counting is done, so there would be no way to know how many votes need to be made up.

there haven’t really been extensive errors in the system itself — the errors have all been either news reporting errors or errors in unofficial tallies. it is when the official tallies are taken, as was happening today, that the official vote is found. so the system is actually working.
