Well, I would not have shut it all down on this bill. I would shut it all down on the Debt Ceiling vote, and leave it shut down, until either we have a repeal of Obamacare, or a balanced budget. Otherwise, what’s the point? If they’re not going to do that, we might as well have Pelosi back in there, it’s the same thing.
Now, the debate is about how much to cut rather than how much to spend. That is a victory in and of itself.
We did not get in this position overnight. This has been decades in the making and saying or even thinking a few elections will change things is a fools errand.
There are whole groups of voters who have been brainwashed in our educational system. Need an example? Look no further than the fool-hardy kids of Wisconsin.

That being said, this deal is a major failure for the American people. Spending in Washington is out of control. Billions of dollars are being wasted and our great country is being driven into insolvency. This deal produced almost no savings whatsoever.
Since the Democrats took over in 1997(Bush was reduced to an ineffectual figurehead by then) they have been punching holes in the hull of the ship. Spending is at $4 trillion per year, annual deficits are between $1 and $2 trillion. This big debate was whether to remove the water with a teaspoon or a tablespoon.
All this talk of “cuts” is just propaganda to fool the ignorant voters. Most of the “cuts” are just tiny reductions in the rate of growth. Some are not even that, just accounting gimmickry.
Republicans are going to have to learn to be much stronger and much less afraid or our great country is doomed.
Remember it was the Senate, President and Vice-President on one side of the table and the lone Republican on the other. B. did well. The job to be done is ours to do!!
If conservatives want to get the package we want, then we must get to work and elect 60+ senators and hold the house.
Then we need to win back the Presidency and get as many seats as possible in the Senate in 2012, and follow up with more in 2014.
Senator Johnny Isakson (R-GA) said yesterday on the Senate floor that we are digging a hole. He stated that we should recognize the hole we are in, and try to get out... It was one remark in a sea of hot air that made some sense.

Are you implying that the Republicans “hold power”? When you have a conservative Senate and a conservative President then you can get somewhere. Until then, it is a struggle every day, week, month and year.
