Jobless Rate For Young Is 25%—and Rising

They will stay jobless and Obama will exploit them next summer. It won't be a pretty sight to see.

Illegals fill teen jobs, from delivering papers to running a fryolator, picking vegetables, car washes, construction gopher, and so on. Low wage, part time, seasonal jobs used to be how kids entered the job market.

When I was a teen I held jobs from gas station attendant, landscaper and department store employee. This was the 1970’s and jobs were abundant. No such thing as a resume or a test either. All I had to do was walk into the employers personnel office and fill out an application, wait a few minutes for an interview and get the job. I can't remember ever being turned down. Now these types of jobs can only be applied for on line. You must take a test that they never tell you if you passed or not and no one ever calls you back. Yet when you go to the store or company you see people who can hardly speak English working there.

Most 16-19 year olds in this area that I have hired have the work ethics of a union employee. They question your authority and refuse to do the menial jobs they were hired to do. They also have a problem with the cell phones.

In Southern California there is zero market for teenagers...all the jobs are taken by ‘recent immigrants’.

The real unemployment rate for everyone (U6) is actually 16.9%, so I wonder what the real figure is for young people?

When they raised the minimum wage to over seven bucks an hour that killed youth employment. Sheesh you can not even get a part time job. Another payoff to the unions that Obama orchestrated.

I do fail to understand the ignorance of today’s young generation. Are they simply not educated or are they indoctrinated? Not sure what is happening today but the younger folks ought to be rebelling against taxes and the administrations policies. They are the beneficiaries of the wrong decisions of today...(and Obama expects them to vote for him...).

Well they need jobs to get jobs.

It’s not our fault.

Now they can pay their taxes. My retirement is underfunded. :)

25% is probably a low figure and still the vast majority of young voters will still vote for the marxist poser.
Though Israel is being thrown under the bus by the marxist poser, American Jews will too vote for him.
Fags, Teachers, unionists and woman who think he has a pretty smile too will vote obammy.

Although this won't solve the teen unemployment problem, it might help just a little: Pull your pants up and lace your shoes. I will never hire anyone who has such low standards for themselves that they wear their pants below their ass while falling out of their lace-less sneakers. The look is intended to emulate prison attire because one of the first things a thug must do when he checks into jail is handover his belt and shoe laces so he doesn't off himself (or use them as a weapon). Hence, the sagging pants and lace-less shoes.

And I don't care if the kids wears a $2000 Brooks Brothers suit to the office every day and sings in the church choir. If I see him on the street during non-work hours dressed like a thug, I will fire him the very next he shows up for work

“If these (wage) increases do go through, the prospect for teen employment will remain grim as employers search for workers with advanced skills to fill positions.”

Like reading, writing and basic math.

Not EVERY young person is a loser and just in case you were not aware, THERE IS A SHORTAGE OF JOBS. But who cares, because we all know that what you did in your youth trumps what is reality now. Goodness, for the benefit of this country, some FReepers need to see beyond their own perfection.

I wonder what portion of the 25% get dressed in clothes suitable to the work they want, go out knocking on doors, filling out applications, and when asked “When can you start?” say “well, right now sir”.

Probably not many.
