Hey, if it wasn't for the cotton gin, JJJr and his peeps would be claiming how bad things are in their home country on the continent of Africa.

FWIW, invention of the cotton gin actually increased demand for labor, because hand carding (separation of cotton lint from seed and other foreign material) was a major bottleneck in increasing cotton consumption.

The cotton gin eliminated this bottleneck and cotton production soared and, with it, the demand for slave labor-- exactly the opposite intention of Eli Whitney in introducing the new invention.

Of course, it did cut down on the labour requirements for cotton carding.
