....Agents raided 15 Chuy's Mesquite Broiler restaurants in both states and served 20 search warrants. They detained about 40 suspected illegal immigrants who were working at the restaurants when the raids took place, Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Vincent Picard said.
The father and son independently own about 20 restaurants in the Chuy's chain. A company accountant also was arrested on a 19-count indictment.
....The Evensons and accountant Diane Strehlow, 47, of Tempe, Ariz., are accused of hiring illegal immigrants for the company's kitchen operations and paying them under the table. They did not collect state or federal income taxes for those employees, according to the indictment.
Meanwhile, staff who worked with the public were legal workers and taxes were taken out of their checks.
..........According to the indictment, Mark Evenson personally directed employees not to provide personal information for illegal immigrants to the government because the workers would be arrested. After receiving a complaint about illegal immigrants working at the company's Lake Havasu City restaurant, he allegedly told an employee that adding "some American people" to the staff may stop the complaints.
.....ICE Director John Morton said Wednesday's raids were sparked by a tip more than a year ago that company officials were employing illegal workers.

Oh, I thought maybe they arrested some folks in Houston - instead it was California and Arizona. Notice it took a YEAR after the “tip” - Here’s a “tip” for ICE: If they are short, very brown and don’t speak English, they are most likely illegals.

This made me laugh but be prepared for trolls to call you racist.
Good for ICE but if they don’t also arrest the owners of the franchise then this will continue and we will get more illegals getting paid under the table and dropping anchor babies we pay for. Then LULAC will whine we can’t deport the illegals and separate the families.

I overheard a woman telling the story of their credit card info being “lifted” at a Chuy’s in the Houston metroplex area. They were called about charges being made to their account in NC. When she returned to where they’d used their card and confronted the manager, she was told that the waiter who’d served them was such a great guy and she must be mistaken because he was a recovering addict and.......nothing was done....

Haha - me, racist? Ok - they can fire away but if they don’t know illegals are, for the most part, smaller and darker skinned than American hispanics, then they are blind. But they can fire away at me if they want. ;^)
A good reminder to take cash always. Your story doesn’t surprise me a bit.
The best way to get rid of illegals? That won’t cost the taxpayers a dime? STOP giving them benefits. NO public school education. NO welfare. NO free health care. They’ll go back home very quickly.
How about road crews? In Texas it is illegals working to build/repair our roads. I’m sure their excuse is that the work is a bid and the lowest bid wins - perhaps they should have to include a rider saying the workers need to be legally working on the crew?

I remember it clearly. It was the Chuy’s location on Barton Creek Road, and the manager’s name is Mia Lawrence.
This story really has me conflicted. Who do I believe, a spokesman for a restaurant that is pretty well known for hiring illegals or the Just-us Dept who is pretty well known for lying?
One thing to keep straight is that according to the web, there are two different Chuy’s chains.
One mostly in the Texas area at www.chuys.com. This is the one that turned in the Bush twins. They have no locations in Arizona or California.
The other one found only in Arizona and California is at www.bajachuys.com. These are the ones that were raided.
We’ve eaten at both and like the Texas ones better.
