DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) -- A Florida pastor's planned demonstration outside a Michigan mosque was scuttled Friday after a jury determined the protest would constitute a breach of the peace and he was briefly jailed for refusing to pay what authorities called a "peace bond."

The Rev. Terry Jones, whose past rhetoric against Muslims has inflamed anti-Western sentiment in Afghanistan, said he refused to pay the $1 bond because to do so would violate his freedom of speech.

The guy is an idiot for losing control of his firearm, but quite useful for provoking the idiocy of Islam.

“Somers conducted a one-day jury trial to determine whether Jones would pose a threat to peace. They did, and Somers then ordered Jones and an associate to post the bond to ostensibly cover the costs of police protection.”

I would guess this is just a joke, if it weren’t from the AP. Everyone knows the AP tells only the truth. A bond of $1? Come on. Can’t be serious. If I were him, I would think of suing everyone involved in this episode, including the jury and the judge and the state for violating his rights. They obviously did this to make a point, and for no other reason. And that means it was nothing more than a violation of his rights.

I'm starting to wonder if this guy is smarter than I originally thought.

I mean, like him or not, he's made a public spectacle of the hypocrisy and imbalance.
There are a lot of outraged people in all the spectrum right now because this guys rights were just spat on.

But Dawud Walid, the executive director of the Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said Jones and Sapp should have been allowed to demonstrate outside the mosque to show that Muslims in Dearborn would not have rioted in response.

"Mr. Jones has been made as a martyr for free speech," Walid said.

What's wrong with this picture?

It would have been much better if the bond actually covered the potential cost of police involvement. But setting it at a token $1 destroys any defense of real application, and certifies that the court demand was used solely to get him to accept administrative jurisdiction, and in doing so surrender his 1st Amendment RIGHT.

There is very, very nasty legal work behind this. Stupid and crude, but very nasty.

The breach of peace potential was the fear that the muzzies would attack the protestors, not anything the protestors might do themselves. This is like arresting the members of the prayer vigil outside an aborturary because the death-mothers might attack the Christians.

"1. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

What is going on here? Are we so blind as a nation, that we put our heads in the sand? Okay, maybe Rev Jones is a few fries short of a Happy Meal, but does this mean you treat him any different from any other US citizen? I guess my question is, would Muslims be treated the same way? Would a permit be granted to Muslims who were protesting outside a Christian Church? (Before you answer, you must remember that Islam is a religion of peace) ;-)

I do not know what is scarier: A court and judge who refuses to let Jones protest...or...those who are supporting Islam and Islamic Terrorism over Jones

Have people already forgot about 9/11??

You are right there. We do have a Muslim in the White House.

Biggest problem with Amrica is that they do not listen
Obama has stated that when a bad wind blows he will come down on the Muslim side.
He has stated that he was a registered Muslim and studied the Koran and loves th sopund of the call to prayer.
Once a Muslim always a Muslim, there is no getting out. Ask any Muslim what they do to people who get out , who convert.

He says thing, but people do not listen
Energy prices will skyrocket, He said that.

Why don’t they listen.
