Palin hits Obama on Libya
SarahPAC ^ | April 26, 2011 | Sarah Palin

Please make up your mind, Mr. President. You can’t vacillate when spending America’s human and fiscal resources in yet another foreign country without good reason. You said that Libyan leader Gaddafi has got to go. Many of us heard that as your call to action and agreed, "Okay, you’re right. He’s an evil dictator who kills his own innocent people, so enforce a no-fly zone so he can’t continue an aerial slaughter." But then you said our mission in Libya isn’t to oust Gaddafi after all. (Or vice versa on the order or your statements. Between you and your advisers the public has been given so many conflicting statements on why we’re intervening in Libya that I apologize if I can’t keep up with the timing and rationale of your murky foreign policy positions.)

Our Mission is simple. Secure the oil flow to Europe at any cost. As well as protect the British and French owned drilling rigs. Pretty basic stuff.

Well Sarah, this is why many of us kept saying we had no business getting involved in Libya. Who didn’t know that Obama would turn this into a fiasco?

The first problem is that neither side is worthy of our support. We are expending our treasure to help rebels whose numbers include some of the worst of the worst.

When all is said and done, we will have helped bad people obtain power, we’ll be called the ‘Great Satan’, and they’ll conspire against us.

Shaking head...

You forgot about the policy goal to entangle additional US resources into yet another Middle Eastern tar baby.

"As was recently asked: When do you ever just "roll up your sleeves, unplug the teleprompter" and do the job of governing and administrating for which voters hired you? I know, I know, granted you will be even busier very soon. After all, golf season kicks into high gear shortly. NBA and NHL brackets await. Summer vacations and that all-consuming campaign whistle stop tour will no doubt slam you."

SMACK!

A reminder of where Libya's sweet oil goes.

Hmm, but Ghadaffi's gold is probably as important as the oil. It's a substantial amount of metal, and I heard some internet rumor that he was thinking about issuing a gold-backed currency.

It can't be a coincidence that one of the rebels' first acts was to set up a bank: the 'Central Bank of Benghazi' - as a monetary authority.

If you were in a life or death struggle against a crazed dictator, would setting up a bank be high on the list?

If this turns out to be 'Bernanke's War' to prop up fiat currency then I predict we're all going to be extremely angry.

Speaking of indecisive: What does Sarah want? Does she want to intervene or stay out? She’s all over the place on this one depending on the shifting currents of conservative opinion.

Yet, he won’t intervene in Syria. If we were to get involved anywhere, that is the place we need to get involved. Syria has be a terrorist hotbed for decades.

Sarah want the Prez to make a decision and follow through. It’s not her place to dictate foreign policy for the U.S. She’s not the President.......yet.

Once again Palin stands on the sidelines and throws spitballs but offers no solutions.

Somebody should remind her that she was way out in front in demanding a NFZ and likely troops on the ground in Libya.

Perhaps she wants us to win and be done over there, rather than drawing it out indefinitely while Zero’s distracted by everything under the sun.

She was the first to propose a NFZ. She did it at a time when it could have done the most good. Obama dithered until the Libyan army had driven the rebels back across the country with the help of their air force and helicopter gunships. She stated early on in an interview with Greta on FNC, that we either need to be in it to win it or we should get out. She never favored a stalemate such as we appear to be in now.

That’s correct. A NFZ when Palin asked for it would likely have been effective. I remember when Ghadaffi was on the skids and the rebels were knocking on his door: he survived because of his (puny by our standards) airpower.

Palin intended to let the rebels take out Ghadaffi, and she intended it at a time when intervention was a low cost option.

But Obama is still dithering and the mission has become increasingly unclear. He’s like Carter on Iran. If Obama actually has a coherent war aim in Libya, it’s not one he can share with the rest of us.

Sir,

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong as I don’t get to get on FR as much as some but my recollection is that “Captain Kirk” has never said one good thing about Sarah Palin.

If I am correct, then “the emperor has no clothes” and you’re comments about Sarah Palin have no credibility on this very conservative forum just as I would have no credibility whatsoever on a liberal forum making any comment whatsover concerning Obama because, Lord knows, like you with Sarah, I could not EVER think of one good thing to say about the man!!! Have a nice day.

She was the first to propose a NFZ. She did it at a time when it could have done the most good.

______________________________________

She did it without having any idea who the 'rebels' were and without any clear statement of knowing where it would lead.

"Certainly a no fly zone," Palin is quoted as saying. "I hate to say, jeez, more troops on the ground. You know send more of our brave young men and women over there in Libya. When yes, 41 years of Gaddafi. He's got to go..."

If you can make sense out of that statement then you're a mind reader.

We never should have intervened at all. It would be over by now.

A NFZ to protect Al Qaeda and militant muslims should never have been an option.

Now we have that ass McCain over there sticking up for an enemy that has sworn to kill us.

What a disaster. Never should anyone call for action with a person like Obama at the helm.

Remember that that was a tweet. As President, she’ll get to hold press conferences without having to fit into a 140-character limit.

“Ghadaffi’s got to go” seems like a coherent war aim to me. And a NFZ when Palin asked for it would have brought that aim very cheaply.

A NFZ after the Rebels got their asses kicked (OTOH) is either a bid for a managed stalemate and an eventual de facto division of Libya into two states - or a stalemate that will eventually require boots on the ground in the shape of training cadres for some kind of debatable long term win. The lemon in the Whitehouse isn’t giving anything away about “Operation Aimless Fury”, so we’ll just have to guess what his plan is.
