“Also, his mother could not confer citizenship on Obama at the age of 18.

She had to be a citizen for 5 years after the age of 14.

She’s 1 year shy!”

What you mean to say is that because Obama’s father was an alien, and because Obama’s mother hadn’t been a *resident* of the U.S. for five years after having turned 14 (because she was only 18 years old), then she could not confer her U.S. citizenship to Obama HAD OBAMA BEEN BORN OUTSIDE OF THE U.S. That’s the reason why it was necessary for Obama to show evidence that he was born in Hawaii—unlike Carter or Reagan or Bush 41 or Clinton or Bush 43, Obama could only be a U.S. citizen at birth had he been born in the U.S. I’ll leave it to others to vet this certificate to make sure that it’s legit, but assuming that it is then that’s that.

As for the theory that jus sanguinis citizenship is required for someone to be a natural-born citizen, I respectfully disagree. Congress by law provides for who is a U.S. citizen at birth, and is someone is a U.S. citizen at birth pursuant to the U.S. law in effect at the time such person was born, then that person is a natural-born citizen.

Then why did the Founding Fathers change the original language describing qualification to be president from "born a Citizen" to "natural born Citizen"?
