It appears that Obama's mother was only 18 when Obama was born, which means she was shy of the 19 years of age required by the law. In other words, she was not old enough to qualify her son for automatic U.S. Citizenship. Corroborating is WND: Geraghty defined the concerns most clearly, stating: "If Obama were born outside the United States, one could argue that he would not meet the legal definition of natural-born citizen & because U.S. law at the time of his birth required his natural-born parent (his mother) to have resided in the United States for '10 years, at least [f]ive of which had to be after the age of 14.'" He then points out Ann Dunham, Obama's mother, was 18 when Obama was born "so she wouldn't have met the requirement of five years after the age of 14."
Stanley Ann Dunham was born November 29, 1942. Barack Hussein Obama, her son, was born August 4, 1961. Her age, at his birth, was 18 years, 8 months, 5 days. To be absolutely exacting; he was born 248 days past her 18th birthday. She does not meet the five year requirement to confer her U.S. citizenship status to her son, whether he was born in Hawaii or in Kenya; it really makes no difference.
