The idea of giving William some sort of Vice-Regal post has been considered more recently, but most of the major Commonwealth Realms are now comfortable with the idea that the Governor-General should be one of our own. Australia’s last ‘British’ Governor-General left office in 1965, New Zealand’s in 1967, and Canada’s in 1952 (I think).
