They actually do a professional job of covering the news. We get them over the air in DC. Despite the celebrations, these are dangerous times for Americans, especially those abroad whether they are assigned officially or just a tourist. I anticipate random acts of violence as a result of the news.

I thought I was getting objective coverage from Al Jazeera during the Egyptian protests, and watched it a great deal. A good bit of anti-Americanism came in from the guest ‘experts’ and commentators, including several Middle East studies professors from American universities.

And I never decided if Al Jazeera had a desired outcome in mind for Egypt. All those Muslim nations risk falling under much greater Islamist influence if their monarchies or dictators are replaced Qatar included.

The risks will go up for Americans in many nations, with or without these demonstrations. And it’ll be interesting to learn whether demonstrations took place in any other US locations. Maybe NYC? But if it is only DC at the White House, that’ll look suspicious.
