It was probably an American Muslim seaman. We do have actual Muslim people in our Army. As to flaming Obama for acting civilized, you should see another FR site where they are describing how enhanced interrogation of Muslim captives (presumably authorized by Obama) developed the information that led to this success. With a son in Special Forces, I don’t want to inflame any more Muslims unnecessarily. Today saw TV of a very large Yemani crowd celebrating the death of Osama, although the reporter also said there were some Al Qaida in Yeman vowing more action.
Reminds me of when the US Navy/CIA retrieved a chunk of a sunk Russian sub from the ocean floor 30ish years ago (using a special Howard Hughes boat) and a few Russian crew members bodies were found. The Navy and CIA filmed the respectful ceremony of the deceased Russian sailors being buried at sea so if the Russians found out about it they could show them the video.

Good move, flame all you want. There is no way to know if the person that wrapped him was eating a pork meal right before it or not, but it needs to “look” proper. Desecration of a body, no matter who that person is, is not an image worthy of USA.

I agree with you completely. Without incontrovertible proof, it opens the door to all kinds of things, such as conspiracy theories in the Arab world that he is not even dead.

Reports I’ve read said that this raid went down at 1:30-2:00 a.m. And this link says that after this muslim kiss-ass ceremony on board the USS Vinson, his body was thrown overboard at 2:00 a.m. Now that just doesn’t work!

I actually think there’s a better chance of him being alive than most, but not for the same reasons.
What “IF” they had this planned out beforehand as well as they are reporting? Wouldn’t there be a decent chance they could take him alive, given all the new nonlethal techniques we’ve developed?
“IF” I was going to go after that SOB I would want to interrogate him without spooking his friends, and I would be doing exactly what they are after having a 6’5 skinny frozen corpse thawed out.
Cut his ear off to get his DNA, then dump the corpse overboard. Disinformation like this is what many of the intelligence community live for, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if rumors come out of a secret military tribunal and a firing squad some day.
Lot if “IFs”, but certainly not outside the realm of possibility and far more believable than most of the conspiracy theories that have been floated. Hell, we brought up a Russian nuke sub years ago and mostly kept it quiet, faking a killing is a lot easier than that was.
