The Obama administration has photographs of Osama bin Laden’s dead body and officials are debating what to do with them and whether they should be released to the public, officials tell ABC News.
“There’s no doubt it’s him,” says a US official who has seen the pictures and also reminds us that OBL was 6’4”.
The argument for releasing them: to ensure that the public knows and can appreciate that he's dead. There is of course skepticism throughout the world that the US government claim that it killed bin Laden is true.
The argument against releasing the pictures: they’re gruesome. He has a massive head wound above his left eye where he took bullet, with brains and blood visible.
In July 2003, the US government released photographs of Saddam Hussein’s dead sons Uday and Qusay Hussain but not until after they’d been touched up by a mortician, making them look not quite real.

Why does this administration have such a problem with releasing key, absolutely essential information?
These photos have to be released, and they need to be released soon.
It’s hard to release what doesn’t exist.
Osama has probably shrunk a bit...and I think it was at night. He would be 6-3 at the most.
Show the pictures.
I remember the Uday and Qusay pics were released to show proof.
They’re being photoshopped by the same person who did the birth certificate.
We may go from Obama Birthers, to Osama Deathers.
They faked election results
They faked birth certificates
They faked a raid on a home in Pakistan
They will fake pictures of a dead OBL
They need to show those photos. Of course bammy and his bunch will play this out for a while.
What rubbish. They can release the photos with a warning about their grisly nature. But these photos are essential to bringing closure to the world about OBL’s fate.
Obama needs to understand that his credibility is always suspect, and that failure to provide these photos will always encourage speculation — particularly among global jihadists — that the US is playing tricks.
Quit wasting time and release them. We are all grown up, idiots.

Supposedly Obama ordered to stop the bombing of said compound since March, so we can bring home evidence.
How does that jive with the current coy action?
I believe they cleaned the boys up first. Nevertheless, we were denied nothing by the Bush administration.

Most of us saw some pretty gruesome photographs after 911. I think we can handle it.
