Steelers Running Back Rashard Mendenhall Defends Osama Bin Laden
NESN ^ | 3 May 2011 | Michael Hurley

Posted on 05/03/2011 7:02:38 AM PDT by LSUfan

The 23-year-old native of Illinois didn't like the way Americans were celebrating the death of Osama bin Laden on Monday, and he let out his frustrations on Twitter.

"What kind of person celebrates death?" Mendenhall, who last made national headlines for fumbling in the Super Bowl and "celebrating" a little too hard with Ben Roethlisberger in the playoffs, wrote. "It's amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We've only heard one side ..."

That wasn't all, though, as Mendenhall expressed doubt that airplanes could have demolished the World Trade Center.

"We'll never know what really happened," Mendenhall wrote. "I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style."

Obviously, Mendenhall has spent at least 15 minutes watching some of the awesome 9/11 conspiracy videos on YouTube, and he's passing that off as "enlightenment."

"There is not an ignorant bone in my body," he said. "I just encourage you to [think]."

"There is not an ignorant bone in my body," he said.

This may be true, but most of the soft tissue is just plain stupid.

I always thought...there was no way in the world, OBL and his gang of terrorists had a clue that they would totally collapse the WTC towers.

It also was amazing to me...that ten's of thousands of people were not killed.

Thanks for posting the videos. I believe Popular Science had a long article on this issue as well. When I was young, I met the architect, Minoru Yamasaki; his explanation for the design of WTC was to maximize rentable floor space and increase efficiency of design while withstanding the impact of a 727 or 707, the most common planes at the time.

I was the guest of a friend who worked at Chemical Bank at the Windows On The World restaurant - what an amazing view! The food and service were great and of course the prices reflected that. When the mention of September 11 comes around, I often think of the restaurant staff setting up the tables for the day’s lunch.

This guy is a hopeless case. Just give him some medications for his pain and let him be.

I don’t remember hearing whether OBL thought he would be able to bring the buildings down or not, but if my memory serves me correctly, he did have some training in construction or structural engineering. He probably thought that the impact of the planes coupled with the explosive force of the jet fuel (a gas bomb) would actually knock the buildings down sideways, which could have been three times more catastrophic. Thanks to sound American engineering, that did not happen; the tensile strength of steel and the sheer amount of it in those buildings prevented the sideways collapse.

But steel is not impervious to high heat and once the steel superstructure was subjected to the high heat of the burning jet fuel and everything else, it softened, loosing its tensile ability and could not support the weight of the remaining floors above. I believe OBL at least thought there was a good chance he could bring those buildings down if his pilots could reach their destination.

For all those who are still skeptical... go get an education in engineering, how steel is made and how buildings are constructed.

Just for clarification....I'm not a skeptic. I totally understand why the buildings collapsed. I just think OBL...never imagined that would happen.

I could be wrong...

"We'll never know what really happened," Mendenhall wrote.

Did he expect OBL to write a book about 9/11? Reason #5678 to hate the stillers.

The sign kinda implies the space was once occupied in the first place. I’m not so sure...

Property management is still hoping to fill it... tough economy and all... ;-)

[OBL...never imagined that would happen.]

I heard some where that osama’s plan that the buildings would fall over and killing many more thousands when they fell.

IF that is true then his plan didn’t go as planned.

A lot of my more bleeding heart friends spent yesterday “torn” and feeling celebrating death was wrong. One of the things that’s hardest for bleeding hearts to understand is that there are people in the world that are no good SOBs and when they stop being in the world the world is a better place.

Sounds like someone scrimmaged one time too many without his helmet.

Seriously, even if you believe this nonsense, how stupid do you have to be as a public figure to say it? Especially with that particular timing.
