Gitmo was essential to this operation; and Obama and all his entourage wanted to close Gitmo. OBL lived by sword-wielding and AK-47 wielding; they had to assume he was armed. He evidently resisted, and died by the sword. Surprised he didn’t keep an AK-47 under his bed for just such a time as this.
If I was a SEAL, I would be concerned that he might have a bomb vest on, and wanted me to get close so he could take just one more infidel with him. I would have blown him away at a distance too.
