AARP editor’s dream kids are “not selfish” but eager to tax
The US Report ^ | May 9, 2011 | Kay Day

Posted on 05/09/2011 8:02:01 AM PDT by Crush

“I mean that there is no way to disarm any man,” said Dr. Ferris, “except through guilt. Through that which he himself has accepted as guilt…If there’s not enough guilt in the world, we must create it. If we teach a man that it’s evil to look at spring flowers and he believes us and then does it—we’ll be able to do whatever we please with him. He won’t defend himself.” –Atlas Shrugged, pg. 548

What would a group of students attending a pricey private college in Florida do about the deficit? For one thing the editor said they would not be “selfish.” For another, they’d be glad to levy new taxes, even though the taxes “would affect them disproportionately.”

The students' new taxes would include a carbon tax, higher gas taxes and a new 5 percent sales tax even if the latter “could drive the cost of a Big Mac sky-high.”

AARP Bulletin editor Jim Toedtman met these fiscal wonder kids during one of his spring “teaching and listening” excursions at Flagler College in St. Augustine. Toedtman was so inspired he penned an editorial about the young progressives in the May issue of the Bulletin.

Toedtman noted the bipartisan failures in Washington, claiming they “all but shut down the federal government” and “left the annual budget process in a shambles.”

That shambles, it must be pointed out, came about as a direct result of Democrats in Congress—they simply couldn’t find time to prepare a budget although they did make time to set world records for spending US tax dollars...

LOL, college students, right. Lets see if that tune changes once they’ve gotten a job. Are they willing to work hard and see it all go to the winds? My cousin back in her college years was all about spreading the wealth. Then she graduated and got a job. LOL, the tune sure did change from ‘lets give’m a hard out’ to ‘get a job you bum’. Why is it libs love to target school kids? Perhaps its b/c they’re so pliable and can be feed a train load of lies w/o flinching?

How about equal distribution of the grades in a college class. That way those who study and work hard could share their high grades with those who would rather drink beer and party through college. By the second exam the smart kids should learn their lesson and drink as much as the bums.

What must be remembered is that Students in college are still children.

They are not like the kids who come out of High School and immediately had to find jobs and support themselves. They are still on their Mam’s teat.

They haven’t been hit by paying Insurance, Tax’s, and rent.

They haven’t experienced having to make ends meet paying rent, paying for a child, making car payments and buying gasoline to get to work and trying to balance a budget on little pay.

No they are in college sucking off their families or borrowing money from Uncle Sugar. Money to play college games , spring break, dorm orgies, demonstrate with the crazies who want more entitlements.

Their opinions arent worth a pint of sour owl pee, b ecause they have nothing to judge the world by except their experience playing at being adults, and the brainwashing of their liberal professor’s.

These are supposedly our brightest and best, in reality they haven’t begun to grow up. Why should anyone care what a student has to say about anything but college, and their student Union.

If the AARP really wanted to show that it was not representing selfish old geezers, then it would advocate for a gradual elimination of Social Security and Medicare over time, starting with means testing for said benefits, raising the retirement age, and exempting younger people from having to pay taxes into either program, as we’ll never see those benefits anyway.

The easiest way to take over a country from within is to go after the youth.

They target them, because they're all so academic, idealistic, and theoretical. Liberals would be barking up the wrong tree if they targeted people who actually work for a living.

It's one thing for these children to offer to write their own checks, but they are apparently anxious to walk into the polling place on election day and vote for big government to confiscate more tax money - - from their neighbors. I can hardly imagine anything more selfish and rude than that.

True. My daughter was furious when she saw how much they were taking out of her Coast Guard paycheck. She was conservative before that (FReeper from age 12) but the taxes really hit home. And then the state of Washington, where she's posted, banned FourLoko, and I had a dozen crewmen yelling at the phone, "We hate the government, Mrs. Tax-chick!!!"

Sort of, the correct answer is schools seem not to teach or cultivate critical thinking. In fact our society seems to have abandoned it almost completely. This is the age of feelings and fantasy. Calamities come when fantasy land runs up against reality.

Apparently, the kids they let into these "pricy" private colleges aren't too bright:

What would a group of students attending a pricey private college in Florida do about the deficit?

The students' new taxes would include a carbon tax, higher gas taxes and a new 5 percent sales tax even if the latter “could drive the cost of a Big Mac sky-high.

A 5% sales tax would drive the cost of a big mac up by 5%. They apparently don't understand the concept of "percent".

Now, the CARBON tax could drive the cost of the big mac sky-high, between the higher cost of raising the cattle, to the higher cost of transporting the material, and the higher cost of cooking the meat.

There will reach a day when the next generation looks at the bill, tears it up, and says, "F*@# you, I'd rather go bankrupt right now and suffer the consequences than pay your trillions and live broke forever."

All these seniors and government union retirees are going to get tossed out in the street for their greed. It may ruin the country, but the idea that we could pass these preposterous debts we were unable to pay on to a magically more responsible and selfless posterity is fantasy.

They ain't gonna pay, and pinning your hopes on them to live in broken poverty to support your golden tomorrow is wishful thinking, at best.

Not just wishful thinking, I think the entire concept is evil at it's very core.
