GOP elite see Mitch Daniels as 2012 savior

Top Republicans are increasingly convinced that President Barack Obama will be easily reelected if stronger GOP contenders do not emerge, and some are virtually begging Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels to add some excitement to the slow-starting nomination race.

It’s a sign of the GOP’s straits that the party is depending on the bland, wonkish Daniels for an adrenaline boost.

But interviews this week with longtime party activists and strategists made clear that many in the Republican establishment are unnerved by a field led by Mitt Romney, who could have trouble confronting Obama on health reform; Tim Pawlenty, who has yet to ignite excitement; Jon Huntsman, who may be too moderate to get the nomination; and Newt Gingrich, weighed down by personal baggage and a sense that he is a polarizing figure from the 1990s.

Despairing Republican lobbyists say their colleagues don’t ask, “Who do you like?” but instead, “Who do we back?”

“It’s not that they’re up in arms,” said a central player in the GOP money machine. “It’s just that they’re depressed.”

And a huge swath of operatives, donors and strategists remain uncommitted, in the hope that the field is not yet set.

So instead of solidifying against the overwhelming force being amassed by Obama’s reelection campaign, the GOP is indulging in an embarrassingly public — and probably futile — search for a more compelling standard-bearer.

House Speaker John Boehner, the nation’s highest-ranking Republican, confessed that he did not watch the first GOP debate of the cycle because he believes there is still time for more candidates to emerge. He said last week on NBC’s “Today” show: “I would expect that we haven’t seen all of the candidates.” He then proceeded to plug Daniels.

The Daniels supporter drones always seemed shocked and amazed that some conservatives don’t trust little Mitch. Gee, I wonder why?

Sadly, only Daniels, Romney and Palin can have any hope of matching Obama’s fundraising juggernaut. No one else has a chance.

NPR this morning did a rundown of Republicans who were in the race and those Republicans who might get into the race.

Heavy emphasis on Romney.
Lots of discussion of Newt.
They openly laughed at Trump's aborted effort.
They said nice things about Daniels.
They mentioned Cain.

As they were wrapping up, they threw in a reference to Palin -- and immediately also mentioned Jimmy McMillan the "Rent Is Too Damn High" guy and said he was also a possibility.

The Left is terrified of Palin and is trying to wish her away.

Just heard Zuckerman on FOX say that we (the GOP) won’t win the election unless we nominate a “centrist”, if we do, we stand a good chance of winning. I think Daniels would be another McCain and the dims are NOT afraid of Daniels, that means they want him to be it.

Sara, Michelle or DeMint could steal this election.

Zuckerman is an Obama guy. He has some buyers remorse, but it speaks to his forward thinking judgement.

Who are these so-called “GOP Elite”?
Are they the East Coast RINO-LIB blue bloods of the Manhattan, THE Hamptons and Martha’s Vineyard?
Are they the Washington DC Liberal Infected Insider cocktail party crowd?
Are they the West Coast Kalifornia Feel-Gooders Association?
Are they the Mid-West Go Along To Get Along Groupies?
Just who the hell are these traitors?................................

I wouldn’t consider myself a GOP Elite, but if you’re wondering who are the folks that like Mitch, I’m one of them. He’s been a great governor, and he’d be a great President.

Can you imagine the stories in 2004 if Bush was running for re-election with $4 gas, 9% unemployment, $14 trillion in debt, tanked real estate....

I’m guessing they wouldn’t be saying he’s a shoo-in.

Governor’s Second Annual Iftar (Ramadan 2006)

September 25, 2006:: Indianapolis, Indiana: The Muslim Alliance of Indiana (MAI) helped organize the second Annual Governor Iftar at the residence of Governor Mitch Daniels on Monday, September 25, 2006. Gov. Mitch Daniels reached out to more than 150 Muslims from across the state Monday night, welcoming them to his official residence for Iftar (a meal to end their daily fasting during Ramadan).

Shortly after sunset, the Muslim call to prayer rang out over the home’s back garden in the voice of Henry Hane, an immigrant from Senegal. The Muslims followed that by breaking their daily fasts with dishes from three continents. Then they performed their ritual prayers in two tents in the backyard of the residence at 4750 N. Meridian St.

Daniels told the crowd, “All God’s people are equal in his eyes. I am glad to welcome you to this home. You should think of this as your home.” The audience of Muslims from every corner of the state embraced the hospitality and presented Daniels gifts ranging from books on Muslim sex education to a wooden box ornately decorated with calligraphy from Syria, which is home to Daniels’ ancestors.

Bigtime barf alert! It seems that RINO Mitch’s Indiana Supreme Court appointee has just ruled that LEA can invade homes at a whim without notification of the homeowner. As Paul Ryan said of Newt, with RINOs making SC appointments like that, who needs ‘rat appointments? Just think what RINO Mitch could do to the USSC.

So what? Like I said, great governor, and would be (will be, should he choose to run) a great president.

You think that I’m not going to vote for someone who has been an outstanding governor to the people of Indiana because he hosted some dinner? Please.

I don’t get it! I didn’t even know who this “Elmer Fudd Wannabe” was until a couple of weeks ago and it seems like the conservative “elite” are shoving him down our throats like he’s the next coming of the Lord. Hannity even had Luntz poll the guy last night and he hasn’t even said anything yet. Did anyone see that (and manage to stay awake)? Fortunately, I was able to flip channels to the “tooth surgery” channel just before my eyelids completely shut. Infinitely more exciting than listening to Mitch Dani . . . Crap! Almost fell asleep again. If the Republicans are Hell bent on ensuring RINO domination for the next century (and of course losing) I recommend a “Dole/McCain” ticket. Sure, they’ll lose (again), but Boehner and the other RINO’s will never, ever have to worry about missing a tee time or drinks at the 19th hole. . . Republicans in the minority never have to worry about missing that kind of stuff.

Really? You consider that just a “dinner” he hosted. Well, to me, and many Americans, muslims are the enemy of everything America stands for. Keep your muslim-loving Daniels in Indiana where hopefully he can’t do too much harm.
