Only one thing prevents him from entirely forsaking Israel - his reelection. Complete abandonment of Israel would jeopardize that ambition.
But if this Manchurian crypto-Muslim is reelected, he will encourage a war by Arab states to destroy Israel. And he will make it very clear that the US will not come to Israel's aid.

I agree with your view on Obama’s goals. He will push the issue after his re-election.
If he is not re-elected, he will push it between election day and the day we hope to kick his arse out of the People’s House.
If something does not happen to reign in this arrogant, racist, pro-muslim squatter in the White House he will eventually have American troops fighting Israelis.
He would love to have fighting in the streets of America so he can declare military law and postpone the election.

When the British broke the old Ottoman mid-east Protorate up in the 40’s-50’s they did indeed creat a Palestinian state.....it’s called Jordan whose population is ~90% Palistinian.
Israel, vis a vis the Mideast, is like the husband in a divorce proceeding. The assets have been split, and now the wife wants half of the husband’s remainder.
Obama is a historical fool....... It’s not a laughing matter for either the world, for Isreal, nor the USA. Only a serious defeat for this jester in 2012 by a Conservative , backed by a new elected and super majority committed Conservative Congress and Senate will be able to undo all the damage our Communist in Chief has been able to inflict upon us.......I fear for our nation, and that is ample motivation to press for the needed electoral results.
