Political Wives' 'Tipper Point' Is Way Too Late

Maria Shriver asked for privacy this week in the matter of her breakup with Schwarzenegger over his "love child." Sandra Kobrin says sorry, but when a woman stays married to a powerful womanizer, the personal turns deeply public and political.
Tipper Gore is the woman now divorced from her husband, former Vice President Al Gore, a prominent social activist, after 40 years. In June 2010, she gave notice just three weeks before allegations of sexual abuse by her husband against a massage therapist in 2006, hit the national news.
With a tip of the hat to Gladwell and Gore I define the "Tipper point" as the moment of critical mass, the threshold, the boiling point where a wife can no longer stand for the sexual philandering, sexual abuse or gross misconduct of her rich and powerful husband.
I just wish more women reached this point more quickly. It would do a lot of other women a lot of good and might have altered this week's double feature of sex scandals.
First came Dominique Strauss-Kahn, head of the International Monetary Fund, accused of sexually assaulting a hotel worker in New York. The woman involved didn't follow the code of silence that is widely reported to protect French male elites. Instead she reported her story to police and Strauss-Kahn was forced to trade in his Frette sheets at the Sofitel for a cot at Rikers.

Another reason to appreciate Herman Cain’s wife’s attitude. Even Howard Dean’s wife was not willing to go out and lie for him, like Hillary, Tipper, Liz Edwards, Maria Shriver.
I think the author is right. Putting up with a philanderer as a private citizen is your own business, but when you defend him in the public square, you’re part of the problem.
Al is such a loser. Damn I'm good.
Hillary supresses her “tipping point” with daily rations of clams.
It really does beg the questions.
Why do allegedly smart successful females tolerate this in their men?
Why did Hillary Clinton put up with Bill? Why did Tipper put up with Al? Why did Maria put up with Arnold? All of these are successful women who would not be destitute if they left the marriage. Yet apparently all three put up with gross violations of the marriage vows.
I especially think it’s odd about Hillary. Allegedly she is the smartest woman in the world, rough and tough enough to take 3 a.m. crisis phone calls. I know a few people who, during her campaign for president, had doubts about her, saying that, if she can’t deal with her husband, how can she deal with world crises, etc?
And Hillary still hasn’t left Bill. Loyal to the end even though he grossly violated the vows and publicly humiliated her in the process.
Whenever I say Algore’s name in conversation I try to slide in the term “crazed sex poodle”, which is what his victim called him.
There’s a pub I occasionally go to in Jersey that has a local beer with a name that ends in “number nine”. So when it’s time for a refill I tell the bartender I want another “client nummber nine” which just reminds everyone who hears me of Elliot Spitzer’s disgrace.
Never let those socialists live it down.
Now I’ll have a martini, bartender. And you’d ‘better put some ice on that’.
Evita would have gained tons more credibility and respect if she DID ditch Billy Boy when he was caught.
I as a women, years ago decided that I had no interest in spending my life doing laundry and housework, while trying to hold down a full time job, so I never married.
As a guy, I decided the same thing - for the very same reasons!
but what is up with these Al Gore's of the world?...he's not handsome...he's fat....he's an idiot....
I suspect its the Viagra...without it, these guys have NOTHING to give if you know what I mean...but aging with dignity I guess is out of the question....
Tipper had no future political career. Hillary had ambitions and stayed. At this point,if she were to really fade from office i suppose she might do the same.
She doesn't need to leave him - she's hardly ever with him any more. When was the last time you saw them photographed together?
What do you do about your laundry and housework? Got hired helpers?
During the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal, Congressman Dick Armey (R-Tex) was asked what he would do if he were in Clinton's position. "If I were, I would be looking up from a pool of blood and hearing my wife ask, 'How do I reload this thing?'"
I only do my own laundry. I have a housekeeper every two to do the big stuff. I grew up on a farm doing all the housework stuff for the whole family. I knew it was not the way I wanted to spend my life.
Very wise thinking....I think too many get married because of pressure, real or perceived, that it is the right thing to do....I am sure you are happier knowing you were honest about yourself.....
Do they really have Frette sheets at Sofital?
