The Elephant in the Green Room [LONG - Ailes moving Fox away from Palin & the TPM going into 2012]
New York Mag ^ | May 22, 2011 | Gabriel Sherman

[...]

Ailes is the most successful executive in television,.... So it must have been disturbing to Ailes when the wheels started to come off .........Last summer, he’d invited Christie to dinner at his upstate compound along with Rush Limbaugh,....he fell hard for Christie, .......He still speaks almost daily with George H. W. Bush,...

[...]

“He thinks things are going in a bad direction,” another Republican close to Ailes told me. “.....He thinks the election of Obama is a disaster. He thinks Palin is an idiot..."

[...]

For Ailes, Tucson was a turning point,.... Ailes began to doubt Palin’s political instincts. He .....saw her erratic behavior as a sign that she is a “loose cannon,” as one person close to him put it. .... As the media pounced on Palin’s rhetoric, Palin wanted to fight back. She felt it was deeply unfair.... Ailes agreed but told her to stay out of it. He thought if she stayed quiet, she would score a victory....

Palin ignored Ailes’s advice and went ahead and released her now-infamous “blood libel” video the morning Obama traveled to Tucson. For Ailes, the move was further evidence that Palin was flailing around off-message. “Why did you call me for advice?” he wondered out loud to colleagues.

[...]

Last week, Ailes turned 71. He’s spending considerable time thinking about his legacy.... But there’s other unfinished business, which is why Chris Christie is so appealing....Ailes saw in Christie a great candidate: an ordinary guy, someone you’d be comfortable talking to over your back fence. But Ailes may have seen something else. Christie’s got Fox News TV values with a ready-made reel. And of course, Obama versus Christie is a producer’s dream: .....just maybe, Ailes could laugh all the way to the White House and the bank.

This article is just another lib raft of you-know-what. When I see shadowy references to republicans or others it’s a turn off and screams agenda of the author or rag they work for.

Yep. Her Tucson Address is where it really hit me for the first time: President Palin.

Ailes is a wholly owned Bush subsidiary, Al, as you point out. Bush 41 gave him his start and made him.

Ailes first became widely known when he helped Nixon get elected. Ailes work in the Nixon campaign was documented in the book, The Selling of the President, written in 1968 by I believe... Joe McGinness.

Watch out anonymous RINO sources. We are awake and watching and we are taking our party back.

I am so glad we are not like those poor Russians that have to live with propaganda daily.

We get from the news, what they say we get, King makers all.

Have you any evidence that Beck is going to start a network? He has said repeatedly that FOX is the hallmark channel of news, and he is not going to compete with them.

For sure he brought S E Cupp on board to go after the younger generation, and Palin has referenced that generation as well many times quoting the new media as her chosen form of communication.

The RINO’s aren’t needed in states with open primaries, the Dims will be out in mass to vote for a Romney or one of his clones.

BTW..I was reading somewhere that Sarah’s campaign needs a Mississippi online coordinator(or some kind of coordinator..can’t remember) and I nominate you! You would be great at it!!

I agree, onyx! In what part of Mississippi do you live?

Or you can get raw with these strings. Either way, the violin is sweet yet lethal.

OK, I read it all — unlike many of those who made knee-jerk comments after reading only the excerpts.

Don't you hate it when that happens?

Its all one big club at the top and nobody wants to get edged out of the club. Is anybody really shocked?

Happy analogy: For generations, the rich descendants of Alcmaeon of Athens swelled around the city acting the snob and playing God with ordinary Athenians, many of whom had loans from the rich "first family" and so were in the palms of their hands. They played with people, wrote the laws the way they pleased, and rolled all the dung downhill .....

..... until they got thrown out on their wealthy, well-coiffed and -coutured asses. Thereafter, the only time the Athenians saw them was when they went to the Olympic Games. There the Alcmaeonidae would be, still looking wealthy, but their clothing and haircuts, done the old Athenian rich-guy style, looking a little more faded and out-of-date with every Olympiad. Eventually they just sort of disappeared, and nobody noticed.

Sounds good to me.

He’s too full of himself and doesn’t listen to his guests anyway.

Guys like him are not really an asset, anyway, long-term .... they inevitably do a "Dave Garroway" and embarrass whoever (producers, sponsors, etc.) was backing, sponsoring, mentoring them, etc.

Eons ago, before the last Ice Age and even before "America's girl friend" Jane Pauley, Dave Garroway had the Today show on NBC. (In the mid-50's.) He got arrogant and high-handed, and one day he actually fired his music guy, Julius De La Rosa, on-air. That was the end of Garroway, too. The public turned him off, and soon NBC did, too.

They come and they go. You may remember others.

[Article] Palin wanted to fight back. She felt it was deeply unfair.... Ailes agreed but told her to stay out of it. He thought if she stayed quiet, she would score a victory....

RiNO hubris at work. (Or, in Sarah's case, perhaps Rovian betrayal.) This is how Slick, Beastwoman, Red Nancy Pelosi, and Rahm the Rent-Boy Animal were able to eat Karl Rove's and Dubya's lunch over Iraq and take the Congress away from them.

What the Yacht Clubbers see as steadfast, constant-as-the-Northern-Star taciturnity and self-possession, Sarah Palin correctly saw as their hybristic purblindness and a mortal threat to her reputation and political prospects. She responded correctly, we see now, and the new MSM/RiNO counter is the "silent treatment". By my recollection, that puts them on Plan B or Plan C for getting rid of her .... and thank God, that particular hopey-changey ain't workin' for them.
