As part of its pledge to utilize an eco-friendly vehicle pool, the Obama administration will reportedly announce today it plans on purchasing 116 new electric vehicles and installing charging stations at federal buildings in several major cities. Although the government will be buying several different types of vehicles, the majority of that order consists of Chevrolet Volts.
By the start of 2012, the General Services Administration, which oversees the purchase of two-thirds of the federal fleet, will take delivery of 101 new Volts, 10 Nissan Leafs, and five Think City EV plug-in electric vehicles. While the purchase will help to reduce the agencys carbon footprint, it will not increase the size of the federal fleet, as the GSA buys approximately 65,000 new vehicles every year.
The electric vehicles will be given to 20 different agencies in Detroit, San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C., where the government will also install charging stations for federal use. The report is not clear on whether or not the charging stations will also be open to the public.

Like mac daddy it’s just more worthless crap at the taxpayers expense.
We should all remember to subtract 101 Volts from the numbers of any claims of GM sales on that POS vehicle.
I hpoe these cars will reduce the number of trips to the dry cleaners, delis, and strip clubs made by government employees.
They need to bump the sales up to show what a “success” it supposedly is. Another Obama ponzi scheme.

Give it a rest. No reasonable, intelligent or informed person thinks the Volt was anything but a victim of that fire.
Ignorant repeater of lies. The Volt was destroyed by a fire caused by other experimental electrical equipment in the garage.
More likely the candles, discarded ashes, oily rags, or the experimental high-voltage vehicle. Not the Volt.

Anyone who says it is the Volt is a liar, stupid or ignorant.

That's something I would hang my hat on as a definitive answers and run around insulting people with. Where exactly is the Volt given a clean bill of health there? "Pretty Sure" doesn't cut it. Looks to me that no one can pinpoint what happened. I am just as justified pointing to a first production year car failing as anything else causing the fire. I have more evidence to back up my supposition than you do at your theory. No wait, you have no opinion. Just insults. Well never mind.
I will spot you ignorant. That’s not an insult, it’s a statement of fact. Whether you’re stupid or a liar too, only others would know if those are facts. I don’t know you well enough. I tried to inform you of facts.
Facts is, GM has a legal obligation to report defects as it finds them. Fact is, GM has a strong incentive to ensure that any issue with the Volt is resolved very early. Fact is, four different local, state and federal agencies have investigated the fire. Fact is, no one other than ignorant, stupid or malicious axe-grinders have blamed the Volt. Fact is, tens of hundreds of identical Volts have been providing thousands of miles of trouble-free motoring for highly satisfied customers. Those are facts, not my opinion.
You don’t know what I know, and you don’t have any “evidence,” so, give it a rest with your Volt-bashing. A lot of really good people have brought a really good product to market. If you were a true conservative, you would applaud that, not use socialist smear tactics to bring it down.
You accused Lazlo of "slander" of a CAR in his comment #7 via the abuse button. We got a laugh out of that.
Now you're accusing him of using "socialist smear tactics".
Be careful, you are pushing your luck with the mods.
Spoken like a true apparatchik of the Regime. This car was forced through by a Socialist who took over this losing venture GM and began to make it into what he thought a car company should be. Fiat and Lada come to mind. It was not to be sold for years because they were not ready. Also, your statement that GM wouldn't let a car out for production without having it perfect is a bold faced lie. Have you ever gotten a recall notice on things that cause catastrophic failure on your blessed GM car? I have. Numerous times. Stuff they new about way in advance of delivery and in some cases the recalls were hidden and handled during other warranty work unbeknownst to the owner. Just admit it. You are a union hack working for GM or the Regime and find it upsetting that Americans find the company a laughing stock and a disgrace.
Fact is, tens of hundreds of identical Volts have been providing thousands of miles of trouble-free motoring for highly satisfied customers. Those are facts, not my opinion.
Tens of Hundreds? What type of BS number is that. Instead of posting some convoluted hippies blog post that says nothing, why don't you educate a dunce like me and post one of the stellar reports on this Dream Ride? Cite this wonderful data that Tens of Hundreds have logged in. Consumer Reports called the car junk and a waste of money. If this was 1957, you would be the one guy at the bar picking fights on how fantastic the Edsel is in both quality and styling or if it were 1971 you would be arguing the marvel in engineering of the Vega.
Wow! Someone was trying to boot me off FR for making fun of a Volt? I had to read that 3 time to make sure I understood what happened there. That is going to be a funny story at the dinner table tonight. Thanks for siding with me.
Not only for making fun of a Volt, you were accused of slandering a Volt.
We almost banned you accidentally because we were laughing so hard.
GM has sold less that 2,000 Volts since the cars introduction earlier this year.
h the Chevy Volt, GM Is Actually Building Cars to Meet Demand For Once

If you have a better source of data, I would appreciate seeing a link to it. I don’t consider this one an official source.
OK, now we know you are stupid as well as ignorant. That hippie’s blog is the Volt owner’s, genius. Good thing your spell check had only one choice for “appartchik.” BTW, “new” is an adjective, not a verb. Spell check can’t help you there.
The Volt was slated for release long before Obama did what he did. Cars take longer than that. And given how good the Volt actually is, the car isn’t remotely premature.
GM does not knowingly sell dangerously defective cars. Their executives would go to jail. Their production engineers are empowered to stop production if they discover an issue, and they have in the past. I am sure they will in the future.
You don’t know me and you don’t know the car business and the more you spout the more you are worthy of ridicule. GM is building exceptionally good vehicles these days, the Volt is the best of them. One day all cars will be made this way.
Read the latest from CU - that notoriously GM-hating rag calls the Volt fun to drive, a hit on the streets of Manhattan, delightful, taut and responsive. Probably why they had to pay a $5K premium to get one. Guess the free market disagrees with your assessment that it’s junk.
If you weren’t such a Luddite, you probably coud find the Volt blogs yourself, as well as the name of the component that the Volt owner’s Samurai shared with other burned experimental EVs around the country.
Go smash some other machine.
