"I think there would be a backlash against another Texas governor."

That could certainly be a problem, but if he has a good record that he can point to, it would likely mitigate such a backlash. He would be politically well served to distance himself a little from Bush on the grounds of Bush's liberalism.

About that "backlash"..it will occur, but only in the BLUE states that Perry wasn't gonna win. This election will be decided in 5-8 battleground states..

Perry v. Obama in Florida...Perry has an big edge..even in Pennsylvania...once you get out of Philly..Perry could connect with a lot of the blue collar types..Pittsburg area..
