I wonder if TCH was my 5th grade teacher. She gave us almost that exact same speech, but on a 5th grade level, and without the political labels. I’ve tried over the years to remember her name, but I’ll always remember the lessons she passed on to us. She taught us a lot about civic responsibility, and our proud heritage. She had a way of telling it that made it really sink in.
That sounds like a wonderful town you live in. We recently moved, so this will be our first Memorial Day in our new home. I don’t know what events are scheduled here, but I’m pleased to see flags, flags, flags, everywhere.
I wish a blessed Memorial Day weekend to all.
Best wishes on your new move! Flags everywhere sounds like a red, white and blue, patriotic start!
A blessed Lord’s and Happy Day tomorrow, BykrBayb.
Blessed Memorial Day to you too!
“Kneel Where Our Loves are Sleeping” by Nella L. Sweet 1867
Kneel where our loves are sleeping, Dear ones days gone by,
Here we bow in holy reverence, Our bosoms heave the heartfelt sigh.
They fell like brave men, true as steel, And pour’d their blood like rain,
We feel we owe them all we have, And can but weep and kneel again.
CHORUS
Kneel where our loves are sleeping, They lost but still were good and true,
Our fathers, brothers fell still fighting, We weep, ‘tis all that we can do.
VERSE 2
Here we find our noble dead, Their spirits soar’d to him above,
Rest they now about his throne, For God is mercy, God is love.
Then let us pray that we may live, As pure and good as they have been,
That dying we may ask of him, To open the gate and let us in.
(CHORUS)
Well, I may, or may not, be old enough to have been your “5th grade teacher” ... HOWEVER, I AM DEFINITELY AND WITHOUT ANY AMBIGUITY A “HE”!
