"It is a big distraction, because my phone's been ringing off the hook since she announced it," Ted Shpak, legislative director for Rolling Thunder, the group that hosts the annual rally in support of American POWs and veterans, told MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell in an interview Friday. Shpak implied that Palin's presence would detract from the event's focus.

"We're not political, this is not a political event," Shpak said. "The way it came out, it sounded like we endorsed her."

Though Palin will reportedly make Sunday's rally the first stop in her bus tour, Shpak was clear that her bus will not ride in the group of motorcycles that will travel from a near the Pentagon, along the National Mall, and back.

Once again you make yourself look silly

If you say so.

Is there anything she could do that you would not support?

Any situation where you would not presume her to be without flaw and perfect in the eyes of God?

No one’s lying, it’s that they didn’t have their communications in order. She was invited by a state group, not the national organization.

I've been around many times with the RT guys, they are fantastic. No way would they have a problem with Palin at ANY of their events.

I wouldn't have thought so either.

It just seemed to me, upthread, that folks were a bit quick to
slam the bikers and anoint Mrs. Palin as eternally sinless.

That irked me a bit.

Andrea Mitchell’s an implied threat. The story can be Sarah invited herself or Rolling Thunder is acting against the law and could lose it’s 501C3 status.

People need to chill. It has already come out earlier that she would not speak politics at this event. It is supposedly a non political event.

They don’t seem to be uneasy about her participation, they are just uneasy about people attaching it to the bus tour and politics or an endorsement.

Oh for chrissake's people~!! When are you going to LEARN TO STOP KNEE-JERKING AT LIBERAL MEDIA PROPOGANDA

If that ever happened, at least half of the posts on this board would never appear. Well said.

It's a non-story planted only for the reaction (that it is getting).

In an online interview with CNN, Rolling Thunder President Gary Scheffmeyer left open the possibility Sarah Palin might be asked to speak at the rally:

SNIP

Sarah Palin is scheduled to appear at a Rolling Thunder event on the National Mall. Do you know if she’ll speak there?

She’s not scheduled to speak as of yet. But she and her husband will come to the Pentagon a motorcycle (sic), and they will participate in the demonstration.

Plus I don't know why this thread originally said that Palin wasn't invited.

The stories about her being invited appeared before the article in the thread

The "Shpak implied that Palin's presence would detract from the event's focus" was a bit of "journalistic license". Shpak did not come out and say that. Chris Good put those words in his mouth.

Many non RT member riders have ridden with them when I was around.
