Imagine this, U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner read from the U.S. Constitution as he sat onstage for an interview with Politico's Mike Allen at the Newseum in Washington May 25, 2011. Not to uphold the constitution, but to make a case for raising the U.S. national debt limit.
A bitter partisanship is escalating between the White House and Congress over raising the national debt ceiling. Republicans want to cut spending, while Democrats and the White House want more government.
So the Treasurer to make his point utilizes the U.S. Constitution.
Holding up a U.S. Constitution pocket-book to his audience, he began to read from Section 4 of The Fourteenth Amendment (Amendment XIV), adopted on July 9, 1868.
"The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, 'This is the important thing,' Geithner interjects, shall not be questioned," Geithner read.
Then the treasurer gave his own rendition of the reading...

Of one thing I am convinced, it was a (VERY) selective reading.
The Democrats don’t honor much of that document. It’s a real side-slapper when they get desperate enough to read from it.

Someone should have pointed out to Little Timmah that no one is questioning the validity of the debt already incurred. We’re just cutting up your Mastercard so you can’t incur any more you freaking moron.

Now that his signature is widely available on 2009 currency, we can finally put our little Red Stamps to use....

If a portion of the Constitution can be used to advance Marxism, you can be assured they’ll use it.

I’m sure those are the references they study up on. Good call...
See, they do respect the Constitution after all... just not all of it.

Yeah, I’ve even had a lib tell me that welfare was constitutional because the words “general welfare” were in the constitution.

Yeah, Ive even had a lib tell me that welfare was constitutional because the words general welfare were in the constitution. Someone did that to me once. I said it only says to "promote" the general welfare, not "provide" it.
BUT...
The Constitution does say to "provide" the common defense. Which he wanted to cut and reap the Great Peace Dividend.

Geithner reading the Constitution reminds me of what my grandmother used to say.

Timmy I don’t think the Founding Father’s ever envisioned a card carrying moron like you being appointed Treasury Secretary. The Constitution can’t fix stupid. The Constitution was not written with borrowing 40 cents of every spending dollar in mind. They expected you to be responsible citizen servant.
