Facebook to Tea Party: No more organizing
Daily Caller ^ | 6/2/11 | Kellen Giuda

Posted on 06/02/2011 10:28:59 AM PDT by ruralvoter

In February 2009, Alex Zablocki and I used Facebook to organize the New York City Tea Party, one of the first Tea Party protests in the country. Several thousand people joined our Facebook group, which we used to organize our first Tea Party protest. Hundreds of people showed up, we passed around a bullhorn, and we officially became “Tea Party organizers.” Without Facebook our rally would have most likely attracted about 20 people. Facebook was powerful and we knew it. Our next Tea Party rally, also organized through Facebook, brought 12,000 people to City Hall in Lower Manhattan. A social movement had begun. (snip)

Since then, this very important social organizing tool has changed.

I hear ya.

To be clear, FB is really for socializing and organizing, etc. FR is a news forum. The function for each differ. MySpace if another option, especially if an individual wishes to maximize his or her contacts and publicity.

“Where is congress limiting speech? Can you please read up on the 1st amendment before throwing that over used phase out?”

What exactly is the Government’s involvement (including the president and others) involvement with sites like Facebook- is it purely from a fundraising standpoint, or is the purpose to a top-down directive of sorts to limit speech?

(Besides, there are limited exceptions in the public/private sphere First Amendment rights:

If facebook denies conservative voices, but allowes progressive/pro-0bama activities it may set its self up for a lawsuit for providing a service to the demonrats but not declaring such for tax purposes. You lawyer types out there may know more.

Facebook is now part of the government as per:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110407/ap_on_re_us/us_color_coded_threats

Since Obama and the “progressives” don’t distinguish between the government and the “progressive party” this makes FaceBook a progressive party tool... at taxpayer expense.

I don't have a Facebook account so I don't know their policies on anything. I have a Twitter account and I only have that because I saw on the FR Homepage that Jim Rob has one. I haven't 'Tweeted' anything in eons, I *should* just close the stupid account.

That being said, IMO the author, Kellen Giuda, seems to have a tiny misunderstanding on his right to 'freedom of speech'. Like there is none on or in any privately owned business or corporate entity property. It's only the gubmint that cannot infringe on said Right (as we on FR very well know).

FYI I went to his 'new' Conservative website and signed up for fun. But from the server lag I went through, that place may not last long. I waited 15 minutes for something to post then just closed the window and left as the page still wasn't loaded.

Facebook is now a government contractor, as per the agreement between them to deliver terror warnings. We don't know what the cost to the taxpayers is for this service, but I would guess it's significant.

“I have said before that FaceBook is a left-wing site. Conservatives need to start paying more attention to what groups that they are funding and helping grow.”

It’s just like public schools. People get used to it and don’t want to change. THEN the social lefty homo enviro pro non western culture gets going and there they sit.

Conservatives are still just as stuck in public schools, as people will be stuck in FB, to their own hurt. And they will wonder why.

sigh, wake UP people. USE the FREEDOM you DO HAVE!!!! OR LOSE it!!!

” In this instance, Facebook will become a stealth arm of Obama’s Executive branch & re-election campaign.”

It is, not will be. We have already witnessed the might of facebook in Obamanot global affairs. That is why and how the Arab Spring occurred. Just the beginning of a bumpy road.

Facebook is already on side with the Obama regime.

Your applying corporate property rights against the exercise of free speech to internet sites?

Well, my overall point was that...if it happens in NYC, Boston, etc. it makes the LSM take notice. Occasionally, LA and SanFran

Us rubes out here in “fly-over” country aren’t really worth putting an effort to.

Yada, yada, yada...

This article is NONSENSE. I have been able - with my FReeper group - to build 3 pages with 1.5 million FB fans and promote dozens of rallies and direct action.

Over the past two years, Facebook has taken a series of steps to limit the ability of people to use Facebook for political purposes. The company has changed the way Facebook’s group, newsfeed and event features work, and it has restricted the ability of users to communicate with people (via messages and wall posts) who are outside of their real-life social networks.

How does this affect conservative or Tea Party Facebook members any more than it does liberal or left-wing Facebook members?

The article doesn't provide any evidence that Facebook discriminates against Tea Party members or conservatives - it just cites a stat that nearly all FB employee political contributions in '08 went to Obama and mentions the association of FB execs with the Obama campaign.

The article seems to be mostly a negative advertisement for the writers' own social networking site. I hope the Daily Caller got paid ad rates for this.

If you read the article it didn’t say that you couldn’t have a page saying such. It said that FB was limiting the ways in which you get the word out to other users.

OK, so it’s clear that you don’t have a problem with Facebook being part of Obama’s Executive branch.

Great points.

While today we are seeing a revival of conservatism there is still that same ‘stuck in muck’ mentality of not wanting to ‘rock the boat’ and just wanting to get along and go with the flow among the mindset of many conservatives.

I remember reading already a while back that FB was banning any posts that were anti-homsexual perversion. That is enough for me to say that I will never join FB.

FB is a left-wing site. Why contribute to it or join it if you are a conservative???

I don’t understand what the fuss is about. I went to FB and saw how many tea party groups there are. A lot of them only have 4 or so members. Why don’t they join a bigger group? It is like they have their own private group. I did not click on any to see just how many posts there are in them.

Okay, gotcha now.
Get the 'Big Guys in the cities', and ignore the hicks in the sticks who reach basically nobody.

I'm trying to concentrate on two things at once now -- and its not working ;-)

I've been having Video Card issues, I can't get the brightness and contrast set right and I have to edit, color correct, crop, and print a batch of very special photos in a while and now they don't look 'right' to start off with. That's driving me a bit nutz. I have a 130 photos to go through.
