Been a nurse for over 30 years. OxyContin is the all time worst medication ever put on the market. And it was peddled as safe when it came out around a dozen years ago.
Uh, then what extended release pain med would you recommend for treating a late stage M.S. sufferer with neck down paralysis?
It is safe IF taken right....... Alot of people abuse their medications. For those who really need them, like my patient with metastatic prostate cancer, they at least relieve their pain to tolerable. I have no use for patients who lie to get medications to abuse. I really makes my blood pressure go up. And you are right that is wide spread.
I had a spinal fusion some years ago, was later put on Oxycotin for severe pain. The first dosage thought I was going to die, couldn’t breath and heart was pounding like mad.
I took the drug to my doctor and told him to take and get rid of it. He said he couldn’t do that, so he watched while I dumped in the office john and flushed it down.
