Texas movie theater makes an example (and a PSA) of a texting audience member.

Dude, if you need someone to pass or make a law for you to behave yourself then you are an asshole. We don’t need more rules and laws to make rude people behave. If you can’t see or understand that your behavior is wrong for the environment you are in then stay out of that environment. You are not the only one in the theater to pay for being there. And your cost doesn’t give you the right to infringe on the enjoyment of the movie with your electronic device. Take it to the lobby or watch the movie at home. If you insist on being rude in the theater I’m in you’ll find out how uncomfortable that phone will feel as it passes through your bowels.

Sorry...it just doesn't come off as tough guy talk...but your tried If you really feel man enough to get physical with someone over their cell phone use, have a good lawyer and insurance plan.

.someone texting in a theater would rank way down on my list of things that drive me crazy.

Maybe you're already there.

You seem to be saying that flashing lights, mechanical noises and talking are appropriate behavior in a movie theater.

Have I got that right ?

As long as phone is not making noises, what exactly is wrong with texting in a movie theater? Just how is it distracting to someone else?

At the cost of a theater ticket now days I don't want YOU doing anything to distract ME from my paid movie going experience. You distract me and I will let the management know that you are being a pest and a distraction and if they don't attempt to eliminate the distraction (whatever it is you're doing) then they don't need my business.

You want to do something other than watch the movie then leave the theater.

This is why I tend to loathe a lot of the people under 30. They have zero concept of manners, and are the most entitled, self-absorbed people on the planet. I had to try to train a little 25 yo dipstick a few weeks back who spent the first half of my session texting. I finally told him either put away the phone, or leave, and I’d report his lack of caring to his boss. He left. Hey, I get paid either way, and his co-worker will be his boss in a year. Needless to say, he needs extreme poverty, hunger and likely a vicious beating.

Dude. It wasn’t meant as tough guy talk. If that is what you require then it won’t come from me. I don’t say anything before I buffalo you across the head with the barrel of my 1911. You’ll just wake up with a big lump on your rude head and wonder WTF happened. Are you really as big an asshole as you are coming off on here? If you are then maybe you better go over to the liberal threads. They believe as you do that it is their right to be assholes.

Everyone in the theater paid to be there for the sole reason of watching the movie. If you don’t intend to do that then you are in the wrong place and I will adjust your behavior. I’m not a violent man, but I don’t suffer the ignorance of fools.

Extemely irritating as I can see your little blue screen. Want to text, stay the F at home. I didn’t pay $30 to look at your text screen.

Now if the theater has a policy against texting....fine. Post it for all to see. It's their business and they can forbid the use of cell phones if they wish. Just make it clear up front.

Every movie theater I've been in posts a cellphone notice prominently on the screen numerous times in between showing the upcoming movies and advertisements before the main movie begins. Perhaps you're too busy texting to notice? Just saying.......

No, calling someone an asshole from behind the safety of their monitor makes them look like an asshole.

No need to get snippy about it.

I could text it to you!

Glowing letters instead of a glowing screen would be good in places where you don't want a blaze of light. It would lengthen battery life, too.

Not with any backlit technology, unfortunately. Quite possibly, however, with OLEDs, which are coming.

It's never bothered me...I just can't believe all the complaining from FReepers no less. Some of you must seek to be offended.

I don't see stating facts as complaining, you asked if It was distracting and the answer is yes.

Second point, I happen to be one of those [people that is very light sensitive.

third and final point i can't believe that a fellow Freeper would go out of their way to distract other people that have paid good money to find legal legitimate entertainment.

First off, it's my money, my time, and my phone.

And it is my time my money and my theater experience that you are disturbing.

You are not entitled to an explanation of how I am managing the three. And I don't agree that the light from other phones is really that distracting....to me.

I could not care less if it is disturbing to me and that is sufficient to make you wrong. As the legal adage says; Your right to swing your fist ends where my nose begins.

As for what bothers other people, that list is endless. Now if the theater has a policy against texting....fine. Post it for all to see. It's their business and they can forbid the use of cell phones if they wish. Just make it clear up front.

Really they need to post signs about good manners and decency. How distracting would it be for you to have someone whistling in your ear during the movie, or shooting spit balls at you? I certainly hope the next time you choose to be this ignorant you are sitting next to someone less patient than me.

If you are watching the audience then you obviously aren’t watching the screen. You might as well go back out on the street and watch people in broad daylight, it’s easier to see.

Why backlighting can’t be made to dim (and save power) in a “dark room” mode, is not an engineering issue, only a design issue. And any pixel addressable screen could go to negative video.

Let me put it this way. Watch other people in the audience isn’t distracting to others. Texting does. Turn it off or leave the theater. Capice?

I got a pal with a cell phone and I can’t even tell when he’s texting, sitting across from me at a dining table in a quiet restaurant. Fie on noisy, bright texters, but really, audience watchers should get a life (I’m sure this was said in the days of opera, watching this or that patron rearrange her hairdo to the tunes of Giuseppe Verde, rather than watching what was happening on the stage).
