Morons, all.
Funny that you would use the word ‘moron.’ In the early twentieth century a Mennonite community split in Canada, with one group seeking to pledge no allegiance to a political entity, decided to emigrate to Paraguay. The Paraguayan government gave land in the very sparsely populated Chaco to the Mennonites, who under terms of their agreement did not have to serve in the military or vote. The Mennonites did a wonderful job making something of nothing. However, as their farming success became noted most Paraguayans, who are an intensely patriotic society, felt there was something wrong with having what they considered an anti-social element in their midst. There has existed a tension between the two that I don’t suppose has abated.
Now back to the ‘moron’ business. The intermarriage of Mennonites, which now dates back centuries and which continued through Canada to Paraguay, is responsible for for numerous genetic problems. Perhaps the Mennonites have added some new blood over the last few years. One would hope so.
