Drumbeat grows for Weiner to step down
The HILL ^ | 06/09/11 | Mike Lillis

The Democratic drumbeat for Rep. Anthony Weiner’s resignation is getting louder and louder, with a number of rank-and-file members joining calls for the New York Democrat to go.

In separate statements Wednesday, Democratic Reps. Niki Tsongas (Mass.), Larry Kissell (N.C.), Mike Michaud (Maine), Mike Ross (Ark.) and Joe Donnelly (Ind.) all slammed Weiner's behavior as unbefitting of a U.S. congressman.

“Enough is enough,” Donnelly, who's running against Sen. Dick Lugar (R), told The Associated Press. “It's time for Congressman Weiner to resign.’”

...

For some Democrats, the decision to go after Weiner came quickly. Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), for instance, said Wednesday afternoon that Weiner's fate is "a decision he [Weiner] has to make, just like Sen. [David] Vitter had to make that decision" — a reference to the Louisiana Republican whose phone number appeared on the client list of a high-profile prostitution ring.

Just hours later, Leahy became the second Senate Democrat calling on Weiner to step aside, according to local reports. Sen. Mark Pryor (Ark.) is the other.

Freepers post predictions.

Does he make it through the week? Through the day?

Or does he get redistricted out of office?

Or maybe become Mayor of Twitterville?

He will not resign.

He’ll have to be re-districted out of office.

Article number 10 on this topic posted on Free Republic since I started counting this morning.

The guy sexted. Yeah, he should resign and by that standard so should probably 3/4s of the entire Senate, Congress and administration.

There are a lot more egregious matters going on. We need to stay focused and I encourage people to stay focused on what is really happening. Weiner is a distraction.

His ex, the vain and aging air head Kirsten Powers, has thrown him under the bus. If the Ex’s surface to pour on the vindictive sour grapes of the scorned....... he is doomed.

Late this after noon or perhaps late Friday, he will be gone.

Weiner is in the hands of Bill Clinton. Whatever Clinton decides, is what happens to Weiner.

Does Clinton finish Weiner in the sink, so to speak? Or let him finish out his term? We’ll find out before the weekend.

Notice that there is really no great clamoring by the MSM to find out what Obama’s pronouncement of Weiner’s fate is.

Usually the person who occupies the presidency is considered to be the biggest person in the political party, and would have the decisive influence on whether Weiner stays or goes.

Is it any surprise if the MSM is trying to hold Obama away from contamination with the Weiner matter?

It's not exactly a secret that Obama LOVES Weiner. He loves to be close to Weiner; loves to touch Weiner; and if Weiner goes down, Obama will help him back up!

If the democrats keep this guy, they have lost all credibilty in condemning any GOP member who can’t control his member

Not that hyprocrisy ever stopped them

If I were him, I wouldn’t resign. If I’m a sleazeball congressman, I hang in there. Sooner or later some other news story will take over. People will forget.

.....says the person who feels compelled to go on every Anthony Weiner thread and tell everyone to stop talking about this.

Are you freaking kidding me?

I was speculating on Facebook this morning that the reason the dems are not manning the balustrades in support of Weiner’s innocent little capers is because of Facebook and Twitter.

People on those sites just won’t let it go and Weiner was looking more and more foolish. I can’t say he broke the law but his puerile little exchanges with his ‘girlfriends’ and his naughty (altho covered) pictures were just too embarrassing even for dems.

Oh, for Facebook and Twitter back in the Clinton escapade years.
