CBS Poll: Most Republicans don't want Palin to run for president
CBS News ^ | 06/09/2011 | Brian Montopoli

Posted on 06/09/2011 9:55:19 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

CBS News Poll analysis by the CBS News Polling Unit: Sarah Dutton, Jennifer De Pinto, Fred Backus and Anthony Salvanto.

Most Republicans do not want to see former Alaska governor Sarah Palin enter the presidential race, a new CBS News poll finds.

Fifty-four percent of Republican registered voters want Palin to stay out of the race, as do 50 percent of Tea Party supporters. Just 34 percent of Republicans and 38 percent of Tea Party supporters want her to seek the Republican nomination. Overall, two-thirds of registered voters want Palin to stay out of the race.

Republicans are split on opinions of Palin overall: Thirty-seven percent have a favorable view, 36 percent have an unfavorable view, and 25 percent have no opinion. Her favorable rating among all voters, meanwhile, is just 21 percent, with 57 percent holding an unfavorable view.

The Republican presidential candidate with the highest net favorability rating among Republican voters is Mitt Romney, who has a 37 percent favorable rating and an 11 percent unfavorable rating. But despite Romney's relatively high profile, half say they don't know enough about him or have no opinion.

The harder they try...the more obviously scared they sound.

Palin is not fit to be president.
1) No foreign policy experience whatsoever. Never even had a passport most of her adult life.
2) No economic knowledge whatsoever.
3) America doesn't need a president that thinks she is doing God's work every time she does something for Israel. America does not exist for Israel nor should America be used to fulfill her fringe theological beliefs.
4) No significant academic achievements to speak of.
5) There are other women that are far more intelligent and experienced than Palin.

She is FAR more qualified that Obama.

Obama has NO foreign policy experience, beyond what he has managed to screw up so far

Obama has NO economic experience whatsoever...never had a real job...never run so much as a lemonade stand...Palin as been a mayor and governor, which do count for economic “knowledge” as you call it.

American doesn’t need a president that believes that Israel is the problem and hasn’t a clue about the actual history of the region (Obama)

Obama is CLAIMED to have some sort of academic achievemnts...but then so did the UNIBOMBER...Washington is FULL of academic achievements that are RUINING the country...What are Obama’s academic achievements? He CLAIMS to be a professor of Constitutional Law and taught same..he ACTUALLY taught NIGHT SCHOOL at a small college, and we have NO IDEA about what he took in school since he has the records under LOCK and KEY.

NAME the more experience and intelligent women who should run...

“Obama has NO economic experience whatsoever...never had a real job...never run so much as a lemonade stand...Palin as been a mayor and governor, which do count for economic “knowledge” as you call it.”

Although you make good points regarding 0bama, I’m not at all sure that our next CIC should be elected based on “he or she is better than 0bama” - that is not a high bar at all. ;-)

All that said, Sarah and her husband have run a small business, which makes her 1000% more qualified to understand the plight of the small business owner than most of the other candidates. Small businesses are the core of the US economy.

Sarah Palin is simply the best mix of conservative principles, real-world experience, patriotism, integrity, intelligence, charisma, leadership and intestinal fortitude (heh) of the potential Republican candidates. I’d personally love to see her run and win the nomination. I’d also fully support her on the ticket as Vice President. After Biden, no one could legitimately complain about Sarah (not that they wouldn’t, but it would be transparently nonsense).

A Palin/Cain ticket, or a Cain/Palin ticket would very much float my boat unless new information surfaces. Allen West is also very acceptable for me instead of Cain.

So, presumably they asked this same question about the other potential candidates as well, no? And what are their numbers?

Doesn't say.

When you randomly sample a thousand or so adults (ha!) you can assume that half of those are going to vote for the (D) every election. That drops the possible number for Palin down to 50% immediately. Then we can certainly assume that a good chunk of that 50% is pulling for some other (R) and therefore would obviously not want Palin to run, and would answer that way.

Goofy poll. If they showed the numbers for the other candidates, they'd look awfully similar and similarly awful. And it would point out the irrelevancy of the data gathered.

"In the write up of the poll, Montopoli writes, “If the debt limit is not raised, the United States will default on its bonds for the first time in history.”  That simply is not true..."

Maybe the editor left the fine print off of poor Monti's actual words?  Surely that is the case, since old Monto would not stoop to the level of actually misleading the readership (would he?) .  I'm guessing the following is the orginal statement before the editing job:

“If the debt limit is not raised, the United States will default on its bonds for the first time in history or else be forced to reduce spending to stay under the limit.”

EDIT TO ADD, since you used the plural term — women, I have to ask you to NAME THEM.

Exactly the way I look at it!

IF Palin decides to run, and IF she gets the nomination, it’s a whole new ballgame. I wouldn’t guarantee a victory in November 2012, but I believe strongly that Obama will not be winning in a landslide over Palin (or any other conservative conservative candidate for that matter).

Regardless of what the polls say at this moment in time, there are just too many unhappy people in this country for the Democrats to feel assured of a win over any opponent.

I'm not talking about Obama. I don't care about Obama. He is obviously not qualified either. Why is it that whenever Palin’s experience is discussed Obama enters the fore to defend her? That makes no sense.

If Palin is the best we have then we are in deep shit! I can't believe people follow her in here like she is a Messiah.

Academic achievement is important. In fact, I think before a candidate can run for any office they should take a test that ranges from economics to constitutional law. If the president doesn't know shite about this then the advisers are running the country. Then why not do away with the executive branch and have a board of directors?

Palin is pathetic I don't care what any of you say. A simpleton and fool with no mind of her own. She has to be coached and taught what the talking points are so she at least appears to know what she is talking about. She is just as pathetic as McCain who finished last in his class. A complete idiot when it comes to economics.

As I said before, it doesn't matter where you are from or where you studied, be the best.

In a country of 300 million people there are ALWAYS better people but the question is will they run? The electorate keeps throwing idiots at us. I'm tired of it.

Looks like from the first pie chart that 66% of all voters want Sarah Palin to run for President.

The story and headline are a blatant lie.

Being better than Obama does not mean she needs to be president. That is NOT a qualification. My dog is more qualified than Obama. Every member of congress is more qualified than Obama...doesn't mean that they should be president...so that is not a reason.

I am one who hopes she does not run. The media will eat her alive and whether we like it or not...the 20% of the electorate that decides the elections will get their impressions from the MSM by and large. In order for the MSM to not take her down (granted they are afraid of her)...she will have to fight them like you fight a bear.

IMHO...fighting the MSM will be too fine a line to walk for her. She will either 1) Not fight hard enough or 2) Fight too hard and come off as "whiney" to the 20%-ers.

Like it or not...these are the FACTS by which we must play. unfortunately, too many Freepers don't want to admit it because they like her spunk. I like her spunk...but you cannot overcome the negatives she has (the "I will by no means vote for this person" numbers) with the MSM that we have. Is it fair....why heck no...but for now...it is the game we have to play.

Don't want to play that game? Fine. Cut off your nose to spite your face. IMO...the best thing she could do is work with whoever is the nominee and energize the base. This country cannot survive another 4 years of BHO. We cannot sit at home because SARAH! isn't on the ticket.

wow, you folks are seriously convinced that quitter Palin is all we have left. Sad.

Palin might quit her job as president if she has another better offer.

Well, compared to Palin I suppose Marge Simpson would do.

What “academic” accomplishments did Reagan have?

What economic expertise....etc etc.

I am not a Palin backer for president, but the not qualified crap just doesn’t hold up...name ONE democrat in HISTORY that was “qualified” using the “list”.

Seriously? He was a two term Governor of CA. He didn't quit 18 months into his first term (yes...I know...for good reasons). He had lots of legislative experience.

However...perhaps you should RE-READ my post. I NOWHERE said Palin did not have experience as you have implied. I said the fact she is better qualified than BHO does not make her mean she should be president. EVERYONE is more qualified than BHO.

“I NOWHERE said Palin did not have experience as you have implied.”

Here is what you posted:

1) No foreign policy experience whatsoever. Never even had a passport most of her adult life.
2) No economic knowledge whatsoever.

I see the WORDS “NO” and “EXPERIENCE in the same sentence (you claim they are not there) AND, I see “KNOWLEDGE” in # 2 of the list...so you could stretch a claim that you did not assert “no experience” with economics...but no fair reading of what you actually posted would determine that you were claiming no experience.

Seriously, a mayor and governor of a state equates to NO KNOWLEDGE of economics?
