CBS News Brian Montopoli is Either Wrong or Lying About the Debt Ceiling
Brian Montopoli, the reporter, gets something amazingly wrong so amazing he either does not know what he is talking about or he is lying. In the write up of the poll, Montopoli writes, If the debt limit is not raised, the United States will default on its bonds for the first time in history.
That simply is not true. In fact it is only true if Barack Obama instructs Tim Geithner to default
"In the write up of the poll, Montopoli writes, If the debt limit is not raised, the United States will default on its bonds for the first time in history. That simply is not true..."
Maybe the editor left the fine print off of poor Monti's actual words? Surely that is the case, since old Monto would not stoop to the level of actually misleading the readership (would he?) . I'm guessing the following is the orginal statement before the editing job: If the debt limit is not raised, the United States will default on its bonds for the first time in history or else be forced to reduce spending to stay under the limit.
