Alabama governor signs nation's toughest immigration law

Republican Governor Robert Bentley on Thursday signed into law a crackdown on illegal immigration in Alabama that both supporters and critics consider the toughest in the nation.

Under the new measure, police must detain someone they suspect of being in the country illegally if the person cannot produce proper documentation when stopped for any reason.

It also will be a crime to knowingly transport or harbor someone who is in the country illegally. The law imposes penalties on businesses that knowingly employ someone without legal resident status. A company's business license could be suspended or revoked.

The law requires Alabama businesses to use a database called E-Verify to confirm the immigration status of new employees.

"We have a real problem with illegal immigration in this country," Bentley said after signing the law. "I campaigned for the toughest immigration laws and I'm proud of the Legislature for working tirelessly to create the strongest immigration bill in the country."

But that is better than an unmixed bag from the Dims.

Without question.

Did you read the editorial in the Times about this? I read a few lines and saw where it was headed and said, “no thanks”.

Just do it and continue for a few years while it goes through the court.

I doubt they can, as they already do. They may make it express, and portray their bigotry as a virtue. That is a very progressive thing to do.

You just know there aren’t going to be any waivers for Obama-Care going out to Alabama... They’ll also probably threaten to cut off federal funding for roads and other such nonsense.

Kudos to Alabama and their governor!

"PROUD to be from Alabama."

Awesome, and I salute you from Michigan. Too bad you see me in this sea of union (brainwashed), inner-city (O-bots), and other just plain ignorant dems.

AMEN, brother; and I’m proud to have you as a neighbor.

What mean ‘ol Alabama is saying is; ‘if you break the law, we arrest you’. Wow; what a concept!

I quit taking home delivery of the Times a few years ago. I’ll ask my husband to bring home a copy from his office. Was it pretty bad?

That is true compared to Auburn, but a liberal at the U of A is still probably pretty conservative compared to most of the country. Ha!

Enter....the Holder Justice Department. I expect a legal challenge to this (or at least some form of retaliation from the Administration).

When I made light of Cam Newton I was attacked by Auburn fans and called an “Cam-hater”...I thought to myself, now where I hear the HATER label (for example if I dislike something Obama is doing)..Oh YEAH...I hear those empty mindless “hater” labels from LIBERALS...

So, I didn an inventory of EVERY liberal I knew in the state of Alabama...and sure enough, every liberal I knew, was an Auburn fan...not most, not some....EVERYONE of them was.

Not scientific mind you...but not surprising either.

The “FEDS” are communists. The states have a right to deport criminal illegal aliens BACK ACROSS THE BORDER. Easily done for the border states. (Border is used LOOSELY.)

WAY TO GO ALABAMA!
