Sarah endorsed Perry, as opposed to Hutchison for pete’s sakes and as opposed to Bill White!
###

She endorsed him instead of Deb Medina the only conservative in the race. Medina was raising in the polls until Sarah endorsed Perry instead of her.

Sarah made a mistake doing that. I never understood why she did it.

I look at competence, conservatism, and electability, the best combination of all three points, on balance. And as I look at the field of possible candidates, no one stands out, head and shoulders, above all the rest. Some are stronger on one or two points, but weaker on another. I could make a case for several. I could make a case against them all.

At this moment, my top tier would be Pawlenty, Perry, and Palin, in that order. My next tier wsould be Santorum, Bachmann, and Cain. If DeMint got in, he would move immediately into the top group. Romney, Paul, Gingrich, Johnson--no.

Between now and the Missouri primary, I will narrow down my field further. Whichever ends up being the Republican candidate, I will most likely support.

I suspect that most politicians from border states have employed illegals at some time.....gardeners; nannies; maids.

They are then vulnerable to exposure if they take a hard line on immigration.

Not true. It was Glenn Beck who had Medina on his radio show where he exposed her as a 9/11 truther or at least not willing to deny the government had anything to do with 9/11.

She faded from the scene soon after. Don’t blame her demise on Sarah Palin. She did herself in. I was listening the day it happened.

These Freepers who bash California are quite something, aren't they? LOL.

Rather like visiting someone's home and telling them you don't like their drapes.

That was after Sarah endorsed Perry if I remember right. I was also listening the day Beck went after her on that and the “birther” issue.

Beck does some strange things.

Not sure what came first, but I believe that is what did her in, not Palin endorsing Perry.

There is no doubt that didn’t help her. I can’t argue with that.

If Medina had truly been rising in the polls and Texans truly wanted her in the Mansion, NOTHING would’ve stopped that from happening. As we all know polls can be deceptive. You are talking Texas here...we are not easily deceived by much of anybody. NO, you can’t blame Sarah Palin for Medina’s demise...you can credit that one up to Glenn Beck...Medina cratered herself when she wouldn’t take a stance on the 9/11 Truther issue, and then of course she flip-flopped on the immigration issue. Try to pull the other leg.

Well, my field any way I look at it is Palin, Demint, Perry, West, Cain...and any combination of Palin with the others. And I look at electability, conservatism, SUCCESS, and promotion of American exceptionalism and traditions/values.

Again, Pawlenty does not even get a look in...he’s a cap ‘n trader...no matter his mea culpa...and he doesn’t show much success while governing Minnesota. He’s more or less a sit in...

As far as electability, Palin sits as the top, as she already had Obamajad beat within 3 weeks in 2008 and was outpolling him by 3% and had doubled McCain’s money. Until of course dumb arse McCain dropped the ball and ran back to support the TARP bill full frontal...

As far as electability, Palin sits as the top. . . .

I see electability as her biggest challenge. How to reverse those extremely high negatives? She has 100% name recognition, but also the highest negatives. And it's not just one poll, it's lots of polls. Occam's Razor would tell us there's something to that. This means a lot of voters have already made up their mind about her. In other words, she may have a limited upside. Can she break through that? We'll see. First, she would have to get into the race.

What negatives? The lies being poured out by the media? You’re buying that as negatives? Besides, if you’re going to listen to them, she’s polling right up there with Romney. There’s no negative in electability.

Like I said, she was outpolling Obamajad in less than 3 weeks in 2008. What makes you think she can’t do it again? Especially since Obamajad’s record is failure and anti-American policy?

Did Perry put the sanctuary city bill on the list for the special session?

He did...about two days ago.

But Perry always turns real conservative if there's an election on the horizon, so he must be leaning towards announcing his candidacy.

You can’t get around the fact that Madina was the only conservative in the race and Sarah didn’t endorse her. Nor can you get around the fact that Sarah’s endorsement and support would have helped her.

Election morning Jeff Bolton on KLIF was pushing hard for Madina but huge numbers of callers were scared that a vote for her would just give the nomination to Hutchison. They held their noses and voted for Perry because he was a little more conservative than Hutchison.

I was driving a get out the vote van that day picking up Madina voters and driving them to the polls. More than half of them told me a husband or wife would have liked to vote for Madina but were scared of letting Hutchison get the nomination.

Sarah’s endorsement would have helped eliminate those fears. Sarah’s endorsement is more powerful than you seem to think. Here in Texas she has a loyal following.

Nobody can convince me that her endorsement of the conservative in the race wouldn’t have helped the conservative. Sarah’s endorsement carries a lot of weight here.

WAS she the only conservative? Seems to me she first took a hard stance on immigration, and then she flip-flopped stating that Texas couldn’t do without our productive neighbors coming in here illegally. That’s a serious flip flop...showing she would say something and then do another.

And then she couldn’t even handle the 9/11 Truther moment? Because she wasn’t ‘prepared’ for it? Of course then there’s support for Ron Paul, and visits with whacko Alex Jones on his show. Neither of which show me a STRONG candidate.

And YES, there was always the chance Medina would cause the election to be handed to Hutchison, ALWAYS.

Don’t get me wrong, there are many admirable things about Debra Medina. But I am never ready to just turn something over to somebody on their ‘words’. They have to show me a clear record of doing what they said they would do.

And thirdly I just wasn’t buying her sales and consumption tax as opposed to property tax. I deliberately chose my lake cabin in a county with extremely low property taxes that operates very efficiently to keep them low. Do I want to change that to a sales tax and consumption tax regulated by the state? NO, I don’t. I have more input into my local taxing authority.

You make some good points. To address the immigration “flip flop” if I remember correctly she got that charge hung on her when she said we needed a way to let immigrants come here legally but not allow illegal aliens to keep streaming in in violation of our laws.

The tax situation is tough. I’m against any property tax because it turns your property into a rental from the ruling class. I’m also against socialized schooling. Think how your property tax would change were the school tax eliminated.

If we are going to continue to have a feudal system where we rent our land from our rulers, I’d like to see the value frozen at what is paid for the land when title transfers. But I’m open to other suggestions on funding necessary government as long as the option brings in less money than the property tax and doesn’t tax income.

That being said, I still wish Sarah had endorsed Medina and believe Sarah’s endorsement would have been a big boost to her. But someone may have a different opinion and there is no way to go back and prove which is right.

Curious. Was there a lot of voters needing rides to the polls? It would seem to me with the 10 day or so of early voting that most voters needing transportation could get to a polling location at some point during that time. Just curious of your experience.

The phone bank would call and ask if people supported Medina. If they did the phone person asked if they voted yet. If they said no the phone person offered them a ride.

We also had people at the senior center and at the library. I’d get a call on my cell to pick someone up. I drove about 30 people that day. The largest group was a group of 6 ladies my sister ran into at the range where she shoots.

They were a hoot. All of them were in their early 30s and most said they forgot it was election day until my sister got talking to them. One of them said her husband had been after her to vote since early voting started and he would be pleased she finally did.

I didn’t get any calls to go to anyone’s house.
