Biden, Geithner Push Republicans on Raising Revenue (More Spending Coming!)

Vice President Joe Biden and Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner pressed Republicans to accept revenue increases to help curb deficits in a meeting aimed at reaching an agreement to raise the U.S. debt limit before Aug. 2, two congressional aides said.

Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah, the top Republican on the tax- writing Senate Finance Committee, said he would consider supporting an employer payroll tax cut being considered at the White House, even as he says President Barack Obama could create jobs more efficiently.

Conrad said he would instead support about $100 billion in infrastructure spending to help create jobs. Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon, a senior Democrat on the Finance panel, said he would like to see a combination of more infrastructure spending and tax-code changes both parties can support.

The republicans need to tell them to go drop dead. Revenue is already starting to go back up again on its own.

There is only one answer to spending. NO

If the Republicans can’t say that, they should be voted out of office. Spending has to go DOWN in all areas for the USA not to end. We are at the brink, the failure to understand and act on that, will be the death of us.

We don't have a revenue problem.
We have a spending problem.

It's really very simple.

agree- i see no way in hell all but a few Republicans would agree to any more spending or stimulus; they would be signing their own death warrants...

I thought the last union/illegal immigrant street repair worker job donation was to fix these "shovel ready" projects. Now we need another 100 billion?????

I’ll second that! The word is NO! The second word is BROKE! You don’t have $100 BILLION to spend. Leave the free market alone and let it do its job!

I think we have a ‘criminals in the Executive Branch’ problem. That’s what causing the spending.

Conrad said he would instead support about $100 billion in infrastructure spending to help create jobs.

Has he said exactly WHEN that has ever worked before to create any permanent jobs?

If they want to increase revenue, they need to grow the economy. PERIOD. Tax increases will KILL THE ECONOMY! We have a complete bunch of economic morons in power in D.C.

The wheels on the bus go round and round,

We are taxed, our taxes go to pay for infrastructure projects in blue states whose unions will get the money to kick back the DNC to elect democrats to raise taxes on the people to pay for infrastructure projects...........

The word is NO!...

Well, now, wait a minute...
Where's your sense of cooperation and bi-partisanship?
I can think of a few sources for "revenue enhancement" that I have no problem with:
10% tax on union dues.

A tax on public employee retirement payments 10% tax on political contributions
(A tax is not the imposition of a premium, and poses no constraint on free speech or any other constitutional right, remember?)

Increase fees on lobbyists in Congress.

Impose a small "service fee" on welfare and food-stamp recipients-- sort of like a Sam's Club membership fee.

Change tax status for all Universities to "for profit."

These would help reduce the deficit and provide opportunities for a broader participation in the democratic process. It's a win/win.

About taxing those campaign contributions:

quadruple the tax on foreign contributions.
Would you call it a duty or import tax?

In any case, it just makes sense:
outsiders ought pay a little more for politicians than we do.

THe highest level of Federal revenue is achieved at these lower tax rates.

Increased regulation and higher taxes result in lower Federal revenue.

Obama’s objective is to destroy the American economy, it’s freedoms, and it’s industry.
Achieving these objectives is intended to lead to increased reliance on government and perpetual liberal rule.
