“It isn’t hard to decipher who the establishment is pushing. No stories of how Perry can’t win. No polls saying Perry shouldn’t enter. No political pundits talking down his lack of education (non Ivy League School) or questioning his qualifications. All looks good, just like the favorable press John McCain received, until the campaign for the General Election began.”

Boy, did you ever nail that. Especially no comments about how shifty Perry’s soon-to-be staff is for leaving Gingrich en masse just before the caucus process was gearing up. Money in the bank that was set up to torpedo Newt, who has been touted as the owner of the best campaign staff connections in the 2012 race. Why not have your guy go get wired into that and then dump the candidate? Not that I wouldn’t throw Newt under a bus given the chance, but I sure wouldn’t do it to go work for Slick Rick, who’s almost as demonstrably conservative as Newt is. At least Newt attempted to make government more conservative—I can’t see where Perry has ever done so without simply following others’ leads.

“Rick Perry is a definitive RiNO: In the 80’s, he was a Democrat! He changed parties, not outlook or priorities. He likes to raise taxes, invent new ones, and let Mexicans in by the million. Any questions?”

You’re interrupting the Perry campaign’s talking points! Shhh! /sarc

The so-called journalist made two errors just in the excerpt.

George W. Bush wasn’t born in Mass.; he was born in Conn.

Rick Perry is not a Southerner; he’s a Texan. Texas is not one of the Southern States, and neither are NM and AZ.

I guess to the elites in the Northeast everyone South of them lives in Southern States.

Oooops!

I should read more slowly.

I thought the journalist was referring to #43, who was born in Conn., but I see now that it was #41 and he WAS born in Mass.

You in addition to being a pain in the azz are a sick puppy who has RINOitis..

LOL! I am not going to stop telling the truth. Perry is a RINO. He is a lightweight. He is a dim bulb.

Lotsa luck bud. I've been down this road before. I worked on Ron Paul's campaigns when I was very young. I've worked on countless state, local and federal campaigns since then.

Perry is a LOSER. You will find that out as soon as he hits the bright lights. It will be epic fail time.

This is going to be fun. I hope that Perry runs now so the people that don't know the moron get to know him. If Obama taught us one thing it is to vet the candidates. At the end of the day all Perry has is nice hair.

Stick around bud, I'm just warming up. And I'm not alone....

Texas is not one of the Southern States...

That's news to Jefferson Davis (who was also offered the presidency of Texas A&M).

I hear ya.

A lot of people don’t know where to put Texas (Houston especially). Well, I guess I know where some might like to put Texas.

Ha.

Who fits that bill? Sarah Palin. The south is hers if she runs, imho.

No question...even old guys like me who think most chicks incapable of such a task often are crazy about her.....

One particular area of serious concern - his method of supposedly reforming the educational system - dramatic cuts to funding (not necessarily a bad thing), but the methods of cutting are actually violating state law, and is resulting in very odd and damaging flushing of some of the best teachers in state (while some very bad and sometimes inexperienced teachers are getting to keep their jobs). I know personally of one teacher that has been in the classroom over 20 years, has been recognized not only in her district, but statewide as a candidate for teacher of the year, many many honors and awards for quality of teaching... but the district she was happily working in (spotless record and evaluations) had to cut her. And from what I am hearing through the pipe - this is nowhere near an isolated cases.

This has more to do with TX being a right to work state and a state where there is no state income tax (we are taxed on property). The teachers are beholden to the districts for their jobs. Perhaps their district didn't budget well. Many don't. Some do, and their reward? Their "reward" is having their school district budget raided through the "Robin Hood" method of taking from "wealthy districts" and giving it to "poor districts." Of course, then the "wealthy districts" have to go to their local voters and ask them for more just to stay current on their expenditures (which includes teachers).

Let's face it, public schools have rotted from union influence (this effects all states -- the federal input is onerous too), inner city blight and corruption from LIBERALS running them into the ground, bloated administration costs and personnel, flood of illegal's children, TOO MUCH money w/o accountability and lower standards. It's become a political tool and money sink, just as every government run entity does over time.

"For the children" has run its course.

Oh, and by the way, Texas increased funding for education (you know the trick) but it wasn't what the schools wanted (property values are down so their increase was smaller) so they call it a CUT.

Texas also just waged a "war" against LIBERAL history in textbooks -- and "won" by denying the Leftists all that they had wanted to cut and to add in their ceaseless march to advance their agenda.

BIG disconnect there: Newt and Nancy kissing on the couch and cuddling global warming and Newt's penchant for needing the spotlight -- because of that, the spotlight landed on his head during his roll out. Besides, he just isn't going to go the distance in a hard race. Newt has great ideas but he flits from one thing to another -- he loves ideas but wanders off, and his people have to direct his focus back to the matter at hand.

.....Maybe if he had turned on the illegals in 2008 during the beginning of the Mexican drug war spillover he might have regained some credibility with Texas Conservatives. His chance to credibly turn to.the right passed.

How's that working in AZ "Mr Edd?"

New York writer!

Get a rope!

I hear ya. I thought it was interesting to discuss, anyway. In the coming days there will (may) be a lot more commentary to pick over than this month old one.

I don’t drink at all.

I simply recognize that the Perry is a leftist who left the democrat party but not the democrat party’s ideal of the government owning everything.

I am okay with you personally losing everything you own and everything that is and ever was important to you if you try to saddle me with another socialist.

I won’t be sitting in any corners.

Instead, I will be using the credibility I have gained in correctly predicting the 9/11 attacks and the collapse of the housing bubble to convince others on the Christian right of the neccesity of presenting ONLY a clear distinction between the parties vis-a-vis national direction.

The two years we have had of Obama have produced the sharpest shift to the right in my lifetime. Six more years of socialism, if people like you won’t run a true conservative to unite behind will likely push us to a civil war that I see the left losing. I am okay with that, tho with my health I won’t survive the grid being down for several summers.

As both Sun Tsu and Von Clauswitz point out, those who would capitulate at even the threat of war have already lost. The Christian right is up against the wall and won’t vote for a McCain or a Perry. No amount of name calling or dismissal will overcome that for you.

She may be Alaskan by way of Idaho, but we southerners know her because we know, love and respect women just like her. There are few alternatives that I see, currently or on the horizon, so we’ll take her and be proud of it. She resonates like no political figure I’ve seen since Reagan.

I’m not a big Newt fan, but even though I’d never vote for him for President, I can’t argue that he tried to promote smaller government after being elected, even if it was just for a brief period back in the 80s and early 90s. What’s Perry got to show for his years in office? A dead coyote, a ton of appointed cronies, favors to his corporate donors, and a bunch of talk...and I don’t know if anyone’s ever even seen the dead coyote.

NEWT’s penchant for shooting off his mouth because there are so many “big ideas” in his giant brain fighting to see light, has reinforced the idea that Republicans are anti-science and/or (depending who wants to use his brilliant brainy castoff genius declares crumbs) that human space flight and NASA are dead.

Amazing. The man is a walking time-bomb.

Kiss your own primary candidate darling. I’m not decided.

I’m going to explore all the possibilities. Newts off the list years ago.

I like Perry a LOT! I’ve posted enough to give a look at him. He can do it better himself if he decides to run.
